Subject: Need title of country, funeral-like song!
From: PattyG
Date: 21 Jan 98 - 10:21 AM

A friend's grandmother just died and she was wanting to try and find the title of a song that someone told her about. The lyrics are along this line:

It is sung by a male artist about the death of his parents it says his mom didn't cry when his dad died and they couldn't understand why something about her going out everynight and staring at the sky then when she was dying she told them that the dad was waiting for her just the other side of the moon.

Sure would appreciate your help:) PattyG

Hi, Patty - you might want to click here and search COWPIE, which is the best index of country songs I know of. I searched there under "staring at the sky" and "just the other side of the moon" and didn't find anything. Try to think of another distinctive phrase or word from the song, and search under that.
Another place to search might be the International Lyrics Server, but that's mostly popular songs. Still, it might be worth a search. I don't think the opening screen gives you a fulltext search option. I think you have to search under any old title first and get a "no record," and THEN they give you the option of a fulltext search, that you can use to find a phrase.
Then, of course, we have some walking libraries of songs who hang out here, and one of them might come up with it. Good luck.

Of course, if you're going to post links, like the International Lyrics Server, it helps if you post them properly. I goofed.
If you want to search for a phrase from a song on the International Lyrics Server, do a search on the opening screen but leave the search block bland, and then you'll come up with a "no record." The "No Record" screen will give you the option of a fulltest search.
But chances are that somebody like Oldtimer Gene will wander through here and know the song off the top of his head. Wait and see.

Old Tex recorded some great tunes.

JUST BEYOND THE MOON
Recorded by Tex Ritter
Writer: Jeremy Slate

RECITATION:
My mother and my father were in love for 50 years
So when dad died, we wondered why my mother shed no tears
We asked her once about it, but, she wouldn't tell us why
Instead, she'd walk out side each night and smile up at the sky
Then just before she left us, she called us to her side
She told us what my father said to her, just before he died.

SING:
I remember when you said you'd never leave me
Thru these golden years I've kept the same vow, too
But now that I am goin', please don't leave me
I'll walk Just Beyond The Moon, then I'll stop and wait for you.

You can look up evry night and you'll see me light the light
Where I'll watch for you to join me someday soon
We'll go lookin' thru the stars, for the heaven that is ours
And I know we'll find it soon, somewhere Just Beyond The Moon.

I'll walk Just Beyond The Moon then I'll stop and wait for you.

I'll just sit there by a star and I'll watch you from afar
Til I see you walkin' to'ard me someday soon
Then together hand-in-hand, we'll find our promised land
And we'll settle down forever, darlin', Just Beyond The Moon.

I'll walk Just Beyond The Moon, then I'll stop and wait for you.

I am looking for sheet music to the above mentioned song, Just Beyond the Moon. I am looking for piano or organ sheet music for this song. My grandma is not doing well (she is 96) and she asked for the song first and I purchased it from Amazon. Now she is wanting the sheet music so that it can be played and sung at her funeral. It has to be either piano or organ so it can be played at her funeral. I will do anything for my grandma and I am desperate to get this sheet music for her. I am asking anyone that see's this post and can help me to please help me fulfill one of my grandmas last requests. Thank you so much in advance. My email is dreamcharmer00@yahoo.com

I did a little looking but didn't find it.

Tracy, I suggest you take a laptop or something like that to the funeral and play the Tex Ritter version from YouTube. Talk to the funeral director, and he will be able to figure it out.

When my uncle died, the funeral director came up with a recording of Johnny Mathis singing "The Twelfth of Never," which my uncle and aunt always loved. They played it over the PA, and everybody listened thoughtfully.

Have you noticed that the first part of "Just Beyond the Moon" isn't sung, it's recited? What would a pianist or organist do with that?

PS Don't put your e-mail address on the Internet. You will start getting spam or worse.
