At Folklife in Seattle this May I heard some new verses to This Land is Your Land, relating to the "Battle in Seattle" protests of the WTO conference.

Does anyone have these verse

Unfortunately, I can't remember any specific lines. (I was in a Band Scramble and it was our pick up band that did the song. I was paying attention to playing backup and not focusing on the lyrics.) The hook line may have been changed to "This world belongs to you and me," or something like that.

I will ask some Seattle Song Circle people if they know the verses. If I find them, I'll post them. If someone else knows them, I hope they will.

My memory is starting to come back, a little.

I think one verse started: There was a battle, here in Seattle ...

I could add something like, " 'Cause corporations treat folks like cattle." The W. T. O. has really got to go; This world was made for you and me!

Feel free to modify, as you see fit. As WyoWoman said, we can just make up our own WTO verses.

I'll bet ya two bucks that you are looking for Jim Page's rewrite of "This land is your land", with the WTO Protest still fresh in his mind. Don't know if he recorded it, but I have heard him play it live a time or two... He is based in Seattle, and he's been a pure hero to a lot of folks... Look him up, and tell him hi for me! ttr

TTR, It wouldn't surprise me at all if Jim wrote those verses I heard (although Zeke Hoskins may have written some, too). I heard Jim do some of his other songs about Seattle, Paul Allentown, and the WTO at Folklife this year.

Does Jim have a web page with his lyrics?
