The TV Guide entertainment news channel has been broadcasting a story about the death of Jack Elliott, accompanied by a picture of Ramblin' Jack. Disbelieving researchers have ascertained that the Jack Elliott in question is in fact not Ramblin' Jack, there is a news story here:

Ramblin' Jack turned 70 on August 1.

Because I know Ramblin' Jack, I've always done a double take whenever I've seen TV and movie credits for the TV and film composer.

Of course, "Jack Elliott" is/was neither's birth name.

I saw Jack perform last year. His arthritis is pretty bad but he can still fire up an audience.

For those that would like to know more about Ramblin Jack the video "The Ballad of Ramblin Jack" is now available on VHS. His daughter produced it and to my observation, an excellent film. A must see for Ramblin Jack fans.

Seems to me that I heard some time ago of the death of "Shamblin' Jack Elliott," the English ballad singer. Correct?

Jack Elliott of Birtley - he and his family were/are well known in the Newcastle/Northeast area of England as traditional singers - used to call himself "Stumbling Jack Elliott" to differentiate himself from Rambin' Jack, who lived in England for a while around the 60s, and was well known on the scene.

I had only just learned about Ramblin' Jack about three years ago. I was talkin' to a buisness associate in St. Paul Mn. and the topic got around to music, and he had mentioned his name and said I should hear his stuff,...so he burned me a CD the next day and I've been hooked every since! What I'd like to know is where can i get more of his stuff??!! ~B~

Well, I see the "other" Jack Elliott wrote the over-the-top schmaltzy theme for The Love Boat as well as the sparse, hip theme for Barney Miller. So the guy was good.

Biskit, if you got to http://www.ramblinjack.com/ and click on "what's going down" and read those across the page using the slide bar, there is one note that says they are getting ready to, or already have re-released some of his stuff from the 60's.

Also, his wife did pass away earlier this year and there is a link to a guitar he tried to sell on eBay but the reserve price wasn't met. He's trying to pay off her medical bills.

There's a great bio of him there as well as other news and concert listings.

You might also check with Dick Greenhaus of the DT and Camsco Music, or Sandy Paton at Folk Legacy.
