Subject: Paranoia From: John MacKenzie Date: 28 Aug 01 - 03:27 PM I have on my personal page several threads that I found really interesting, when I check them again a few days later I find that mine is the last contrbution and there have been no further additions. I don't know about you guys out there but I'm beginning to feel paranoid. Could it be that by the time that I catch up with a thread that it's already exhausted? The other possibilities are to awful to contemplate; like my contribution is boring, or that the remark is so incisive that nobody out there has an answer!![ not likely while Spaw is around ] Anybody else out there share my paranoia? Subject: RE: Paranoia From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 28 Aug 01 - 03:46 PM Now if someone could just find the appropriate thread......would it be called something like killing the thread? |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Aug 01 - 03:56 PM Although there was a lot of talk about feeling weird when one's post is the last in a thread, I think it's actually a good thing when Mudcatters can leave off a topic and let someone else have had the last word on it. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: Chicken Charlie Date: 28 Aug 01 - 04:06 PM Giok-- Where are you? When it happens to me, I blame it on being in California. Seriously, we're at the end of the line. Somebody in UK gets a good idea, Atlantic coast responds, etc., etc. By the time the great Pacific-Asian void cycles thru, the novelty has worn off and the thread dies. Alternatively, I am so dense that I never have any ideas worth responding to, but surely that can't be the case, so it must be the former. CC |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: SharonA Date: 28 Aug 01 - 04:19 PM Yup, me too (or else they really ARE out to get me) (?) I think I killed Song Challenge – part 64 by starting the "Catch-up Club" that's now opening so many past-Challenge threads. I feel like Dr. Frankenstein after the monster lumbered away. |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: catspaw49 Date: 28 Aug 01 - 04:32 PM Believe it or not, this subject comes up a lot. Not to worry, as they have said, it happens to everybody. The best plan would be to watch for McGrath being online (he's in England, but stays up late) and refresh them then. Kevin will post to threads that are dead and mouldering! when a subject is completely exhausted and everyone is praying for respite from the thing, Kevin will refresh it with a post at some new angle. If nobody bites, he'll often post again!!! That'd be my plan anyway.............. Spaw (:<)) |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: Rowana (at work) Date: 28 Aug 01 - 04:36 PM It used to bother me but I now consider my posts as a way of keeping the system from collapsing under the weight of too many posts. Cheer up! You may be a thread limiter also; you just didn't realize it. |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: hesperis Date: 29 Aug 01 - 02:15 AM I can't find the ORIGINAL 'killing the thread'... Thank goodness I archived most of it. Not all of it, unfortunately. If anyone wants it, pm me with your email. I really wish the suggestion to delete it hadn't been made when I was away for a couple of weeks (I think that's what happened, anyway). I was rather fond of the monster, and would have liked a chance to download it before it died. I only got the 400-something posts, but not the 500-something ones. Oh, well. C'Est la vie... I found http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=27346&messages=13 and http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=24046&messages=12 ...if anyone wants to know what the fuss was about. |

Subject: RE: Paranoia From: John MacKenzie Date: 29 Aug 01 - 03:21 PM Well Chicken Charlie; could just be you hit the nail on the head when you blame it on location. I live way up in the north of Scotland, go north 100 miles and you fall off the edge, so that may be it, I could be the most northerly mudcatter in the UK. I'm sure some one will disprove that remark before long!! Jock |
