Anyone know how to record an live audio webcast? I've found a wonderful two hour folk programme from the States but can't find a way to sit over my computer for two hours late into the night to listen to it?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Yes. There is a $12 US program called Total Recorder that was discussed in another thread, that acts by getting between the input and the sound card, nabbing the audio and then sending it on to the sound card. Recording is push-button-easy-- intuitive controls.

I have not yet learned how it edits, but it also supposedly can be set to delete excess dead air caused by buffering. I'll hunt up the thread where it was recommended and which had the URL to get the program on a download.

There are also some sound things oinline that are loaded by the provider so that they can be saved, but I suspect you won't know if this is one of those until it runs.

CLICK HERE for the previous thread and see all the online concerts listed-- then page down to IvanB's post and the subsequent discussion for a link to TR.

Please let us know how it went! And welcome to Mudcat. People usually give some name when posting; and the free membership is wonderful.

Many thanks Susan.

I'll identify myself as another UK resident - near Holmfirth, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Cheers Sarah

Welcome again Sarah! There is a lot of good info on computers and music-collecting around here... hope you will stick around. Don't mind the occasional ugly stuff-- there are a lot of helpful, knowledgable people here.

You might like the FAQ as well, top thread.

Another idea: if you have a tape recorder with a timer, you could just plug it into the line out on the sound card. I think you can get your computer to automatically load RealPlayer and go to the web page with Task Manager, but don't think it has an "off" time setting.

The sound quality won't be as good as if you had a program on your computer to record it.

I have RealProducer, which was free, but I can't find the program at the Real site anymore.
