On Friday 14 Sept here in Ireland we had a day of mourning for the victims of America every shop business factory etc. seemed to be closed down except for the American factories like Dell, Intel etc. Can anyone explain why this was so bearing in mind that it was declared an official bank holiday by the Irish government to share the grief of everyone who was touched by the tragedy

McDonalds refused to close also...said it was "nessesary to remain open." Are we surprised? T.B.R

Ordinarily, I would probably be pretty critical of US companies under such a circumstance. But considering the shakedown the US economy may be about to experience as a result of what happened on Tuesday, with unfortunate implications for companies in other countries as well, maybe staying open was a wise thing to do.

There's also been a strong message from our leaders (whether we agree with them on most things or not) that we must not be stopped, that we must carry on. Still, it's telling that the rest of the world has paused to honor and remember our victims and our tragedy. It makes me feel that it would be fitting if we could do the same at some point, for more than three minutes at noon.

Dell, Intel, etc., were helping to look for lost back up information. Thank you for mourning for us. We were doing our best to help in our own way.
