Subject: Another Taylor Guitar question From: GUEST,Knappo Date: 16 Sep 01 - 11:20 AM Folks, I'm very close to getting me a Taylor 314ce and many of you have highly recommened them, but I was talking to a guy last night with a 900 series Taylor and said he had a lot of trouble with cracks developing in different areas of the guitar. Now, his was Rosewood back/sides and Engelman Spruce top, what I am looking at is Sapele "Mahogany" back/sides and Sitka Spruce top. Is Rosewood considerable more difficult to take care of then Mahogany? Also, I didn't get the feeling that he was particularly careful with monitoring humidity levels as he said it was a pain in the ass. Has anyone had similar problems with their Taylors? Thanks, Knappo |

Subject: RE: Help: Yet Another Taylor Guitar question From: catspaw49 Date: 16 Sep 01 - 11:27 AM Just take proper care of any guitar and it will do fine. Woods may all crack at times even under the best of conditions. I get fed up with people bashing all sorts of fine guitars because of the experiences of a few or even one. Bob Taylor knows guitars, woods, and manufacturing. Buy the damn thing and take care of it and you'll be a happy camper. As to the rosewood - mahoghany question.......rosewood may be a bit more "brittle" because of an overall higher density, but there's not much in it. Buy the guitar and enjoy. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Help: Yet Another Taylor Guitar question From: Les b (U.K.) Date: 16 Sep 01 - 02:29 PM I've got a 314, not the ce, as I don't bother with all this electrickery stuff. I also don't bother with humidity levels, here in the U.K. i've never even heard anybody talking about it. The first I heard was in the leaflet that came with the guitar. Chhers Les |

Subject: RE: Help: Yet Another Taylor Guitar question From: CraigS Date: 16 Sep 01 - 06:57 PM All guitar gonna suffer if humidity too dry. Keep in room away from central heating - America bad place for atmosphere too 'ot an' too dry - everybody want to keep warm too much. England place everybody use to cold, don't bother with central heating too much, guitars keep better. You live in 'merica, use central 'eating, put saucer water on floor near guitar when you want to keep room 'ot, no trouble man. |

Subject: RE: Help: Yet Another Taylor Guitar question From: Knappo Date: 17 Sep 01 - 06:46 AM All right, all right, all right already I'll buy the damn thing! Sheesh! I just get worried when someone tells me dispareging(sp?) remarks about something I was all excited about. It's like I was all excited about a new girlfriend till someone says: "Ohhh, your going out with Jane?" Shakes his head, "I wouldn't if I were you. You know what she did to Rodney don't ya? And he ain't never been the same". Anyway, here in Connecticut, USA After calling about a dozen places the best price I found was $1,150.00. Thanks for your help. Peace, Tom |

Subject: RE: Help: Yet Another Taylor Guitar question From: Midchuck Date: 17 Sep 01 - 10:09 PM Buy the damn thing.... Taylor build the best guitars in the world WHAAAA....? Martin...Collings (especially Collings).... Santa Cruz.... Gallagher.... Bourgoise... Larrivee... several others I can't think of at the moment... And more little one- or two- person luthier shops all over the country and Canada and Europe, than you can shake a stick at. Taylor makes an excellent guitar. But don't let's go totally overboard. Peter. |
