Subject: RE: Benefit for NY firefighters Beverley E Y From: GUEST,Roger from Beverley Date: 10 Oct 01 - 04:01 PM Thanks to everyone who has offerd to help out. Just to clarify - the pub tenants, Chris and Helen, have arranged an evening of general fundraising including raffles and the sale of beer donated by a local brewery. I offered to put on some music and will be setting my PA system after the normal Sunday afternoon session and will make sure that there are lots of spare microphones for anyone that wants to join in and peform on their own or ensemble. I'm not sure at this stage how much time we will have to play in since the priority is to raise the cash so please don't be disappointed if you only get to do one song or even just back others in their playing - on the other hand we may get to play all night. I personally will be singing all American songs(plenty of scope there, then) but I'm sure that any appropriate numbers will be much appreciated. I'd hoped to cover a range of US songs from all traditions drawing in Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Motown, Paul Simon, Springsteen etc. but could be persuaded to play some mandolin on some Uncle Dave Macon/Carter Family/Louvin Bothers stuff. In other words anything goes. Roger ps I'm flying to Seattle on the 24th of October if there are any Mudcatters out there who would like to meet up. |

Subject: RE: Benefit for NY firefighters Beverley E Y From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 14 Oct 01 - 04:59 AM I'm writing this at 10am on Sunday morning. Thanks to all of those who have offered to help out tonight. If you want to rehearse or do a sound check before the 8pm start, I'll be setting up the PA around 4pm when we go down for the normal Sunday session(4-7)and will then pop home for something to eat about 6.15 and be back about an hour later so please feel free to come in on the afternoon session or early evening or just turn up whenever. There will be six microphones set up and some spare jacks for plugging in if you are wired for sound. we hope to make some serious money tonight - many of the businesses in Beverley have donated prizes for the raffle including a free manicure! See you Roger |

Subject: RE: Benefit for NY firefighters Beverley E Y From: Les from Hull Date: 14 Oct 01 - 08:35 AM I'll pop down early for the afternoon seession and to help with the set up. Maggie is busy this afternoon but I've asked her to come along tonight if she isn't too tired (she's been very busy this weekend). Roger - how come your Mudcat name isn't Sir Roger de Beverley? |

Subject: RE: Benefit for NY firefighters Beverley E Y From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 14 Oct 01 - 08:43 AM For the same reason that, as a ral ale fan, I don't drink "Owd Roger" and also a lifetime of being greeted as "Roger the lodger" or "Roger the dodger" ;-) |

Subject: RE: Benefit for NY firefighters Beverley E Y From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 15 Oct 01 - 11:43 AM Thank YOU John and everyone else that turned up to perform and support the gig. I don't know about anyone else but I had a great time and feedback from the pub audience and management was very positive indeed. At the moment we are still totalling the sum raised but it will be in excess of $500. For the record, those who performed "out front" were: Les/Linda/Hazel/Chris/Annie/ Peculiar Blue(Paul and Lynn) and Roger(me)(note the 50:50 gender balance!)ably backed up from the floor by John, Sheila and Alan on instruments and lots of others on voices. We are back there for our "normal" Sunday session on the 21st and it would be great to have another good turnout just to enjoy ourselves. Cheers Roger |

Subject: RE: Benefit for NY firefighters Beverley E Y From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 16 Oct 01 - 04:43 AM I only said that I could do Carter Family stuff - it's probably about twenty years since I actually did one (beware, oh take care - I think). Anyway, when are you coming out to see us in Beverley? I was over at Ossett a couple of weeks ago - very busy there as usual and a good night. R ps I'm assuming that it is you Tony and Angie - I don't know what everyones Mudcat name is: Is there a definitive list anywhere? |
