There is no guy named Allen Smithee... it's the name put in the credits when a movie director pulls his name off a film... usually because producers have changed stuff in a way the director hates...

Clinton you are one smart guy! I was just going to jump in with that completely useless information. There was a film about the mythical Alan Smithee. Lots of big stars in it too. I saw it about a year ago and it was quite funny.

I thought the name was familiar but I couldn't place it.

Anyway, this MP3 is by a guy calling himself Allen Smithee. I take it that none of you have actually got around to listening to it. Essentially the Chorus is something like, "I hate Bob Dylan, there's nothing left to write anymore, anything that I could say he already has, and better". It isn't a great song, but it's kind of humourous.

And Big Tim, I'm a big Dylan fan.

I guess the main reason that we haven't 'got around' to listening to it is the fact that it's a 5 MB download.

Had there been a streaming real audio version, I for one would have tried it.

Hmmm, I did listen to the song, the premise is that he hate Bob Dylan because Dylan has already written all of the good songs. If you like very clean sounding, repetitive guitar and harmonica noodling then this is the song for you. But, while the performer/writer may or may not be Allen Smithee he certianly is no Bob Dylan.

Bottom line for me. Great idea for a song but boring in its execution. Now the website it is on seems excellent!!

Yeah, rollingstone.com is pretty good, a lot of archived reviews and articles. It does have a lot of pop ups though.
