As one of his shanty-singing Shellback Chorus, I am missing him! Has anyone seen him? It is rumoured that he should be somewhere in the USA, having attended the recent Gathering ...

I thought I heard the old man say ... !

He was recently seen at the Royal Mile Pub regaling the locals with song. He was in the company of Dame Judith Cook noted traditional singer and social gadfly.

Derek was just at our Fall Weekend in CT, this past weekend. He was a guest of the NY Pinewoods Folk Music Club and did an excellent workshop on the Songs of Northwest England. It was a pleasure meeting him.

Yes, Stuart, I'm sure he is a regular in Sussex but, at present, I thinks he's lost somewhere in the USA!
And because he's not into computers and the internet, I just hope he's safe. (And that he manages to bring back some shanty festival bookings for the Shellback Chorus!)

My bonnie lies over the ocean ... !
Alan

Not lost & having & hopefully having a great visit. He was at the local singing session last night (10/24 Paddy Burke's, Boston) with his wife. He was in great form & voice & it would suprise me if you' have any reason to worry. They were left in the good hands of sometime poster, Judy Predmore (S.P.? sorry Judy). They were also left in good company with hands fully loaded & thirst well quenched. Very nice & friendly people, glad to have have them at the club & to have met them. Barry

Good to hear their trip is going well, thanks for the info.

A thread all to himself too!

Alan, you're expecting him to have arranged a US tour for the Shellbacks? :0)

Yes I'm certainly hoping for a US tour! And if you are worried about the beer, don't! Its OK in the mini brewery pubs - at least in New England where I went with the Chameleonic Morris Men in 1999!

Ale, ale, glorious ale ...

Yes. Lancashireman Derek Seed was at the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club's fall weekend in Connecticut this past weekend (Oct. 19-21, 2001). While he led only one or two workshops, his presence was everywhere, particularly at the informal singing sessions that lasted well into the wee hours of the morning. Derek has a wonderfully rich voice, an extensive repertoire, and a style of delivery that is at once both informative and entertaining. If you get the chance hear him, go do so!

Any more sightings or has he decided to stay on, paerhaps to do a bit of prospecting ... ?

In a cavern by a canyon, excavating for a mine ...
