Subject: RE: Tune Req: basic blues: Sax From: Callie Date: 13 Nov 01 - 12:47 AM I assume you also want a piano part or concert pitch part and that's why you specify that it's an alto or baritone (both in Eb)? Can I have some more info on what you're looking for? What era? What style? Complexity? Arrangements? Callie |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: basic blues: Sax From: JohnInKansas Date: 13 Nov 01 - 03:48 AM If you're playing an Eb, you can use trombone stuff. Just add 3 sharps (or subtract 3 flats) and pretend the bass cleff is a treble - instant transposition. As noted - it would help to have some more info about style and level of playing. John |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: basic blues: Sax From: GUEST,Rob (buggered cookie) Date: 13 Nov 01 - 05:54 PM Are there any Sax jokes (beyond substituting banjo/accordian)? There certainly should be - if any instrument was the spawn of the devil! (no offense intended, Sumdecimus. Honest!) Rob

Subject: RE: Tune Req: basic blues: Sax From: JohnInKansas Date: 13 Nov 01 - 05:55 PM If you are going to play alone for practice, it doesn't make much difference whether you play from something written for an Eb instrument or for something else. If you need an accompaniment, then of course the Eb instrument has to be written 3 sharps up from the accompaniment (assuming a piano or guitar as likely accompaniment). If your accompanist is experienced, he/she may be able to transpose the accompaniment. If not, I would suggest you find a piece you like, pick out the melody, and transpose it yourself. Just move all the dots up 2 steps. A dot in a space moves to the next higher space. A dot on a line moves to the next higher line. Then change the key signature on your part by adding 3 sharps or deleting 3 flats, or equivalent. (For example, from Bb (2 flats), take out 2 flats AND add one sharp, to put your part in G.) I'm sure there are places that sell sheet music for Eb instruments with C accompaniment, but your best bet for that would be a music store that caters to school bands and such. Any music you can find is for Eb instruments, if you can play it. It's the other guys that are in the wrong key. It only matters if you want to play together - then you negotiate about which one of you transposes. Check the magazine racks at a good book/magazine store for "Saxophone" magazine. I've seen it, but haven't looked at it. It may have music or sources. Good luck John |

Most notably, Going to See My Long Haired Mama and in the next line, HERE. Click on Going to See and it will take you directly to sheet music. The "HERE" takes you to a whole page of blue words which when you click on them takes you to sheet music. |
