Subject: I'm Determined From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 17 Nov 01 - 12:56 PM A couple of years ago, I heard a male chorus from a small black church around here sing a song, I'm Determined. I made friends through time with one of the men who shared the lead, and asked him for the lyrics so that my group could learn the song. Because he didn't sing all the verses, he said that he'd get right back to me after talking with the guy who shared the lead. My new-found friend taped the Soul Stirrers record that had the song on it, but the record was so scrathy that I couldn't make out hald of the words. I haven't seen any CDs of the Soul Stirrer that has the song on it, and now two years have passed. I suspect that Masato knows the lyrics... perhaps this is a Stump Masato thread... If anyone has the lyrics, I'd sure appreciate getting them. Jerry Rasmussen |

Subject: RE: I'm Determined From: Giac Date: 17 Nov 01 - 04:56 PM I've turned up discography listings for the Soul Stirrers back many years, but no such song in the listings. Wonder if that is really the name of the song, or a recurring line that came to be what people call it. Couldn't find song lists for some of the older vinyl, the ones with Sam Cooke as one of the Stirrers, could be on one of those. After listening to sample tracks from some of the older albums, I see why you have trouble understanding the words. Quality is not very good. |

Subject: RE: I'm Determined From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 17 Nov 01 - 08:47 PM Thanks, Giac: My friend who taped the song for me had a whole stack of Soul Stirrer albums (not in slip covers, just stacked on each other in a cupboard.) I know that it's the Soul Stirrers, and most likely is more recent than when Sam Cooke and Johnny Taylor were the leads. I've seen the Sould Stirrers of tv in the last year. There have been a couple of Soul Stirrers CD reissues of later stuff, but the song isn't on there. Dumb thing is, I know someone who knows someone who knows the song and sings it. It's just taken two years and I still don't have the lyrics. I will post what I have after I go back to the tape and give it one more shot... But, thanks for trying... Jerry Rasmussen |

Subject: RE: I'm Determined From: masato sakurai Date: 17 Nov 01 - 09:52 PM Jerry. Sorry, it isn't on any of the more than 10 Stirrers CDs (nor on 1 video) I have. But there is a song titled "I'm Determined (to Run This Race)" on Meditation Singers, Good News; and on James Cleveland, Gospel Workshop of America: Live in New Orleans. I don't know if the latter is the same song. ~Masato

Subject: RE: I'm Determined From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 18 Nov 01 - 06:53 PM I'm determined to figure out all of the words to I'm Determined. But, I think this is my job, unless someone suddnely appears. I've got about two thirds of the song written out now, with some lines I can't make sense of. When I get it all done, I'll post what I have in appreciation for those who tried to help. The song IS I'm Determined, and after having dug the tape out,I see that it comes from the Sam Cooke era, because he shares the lead. The song is very complicated, and endless. Not so sure I want my group to learn it after all. But, I'll post as much as I can figure out in another day or so.. Jerry |

Subject: RE: I'm Determined From: nutty Date: 18 Nov 01 - 07:27 PM Jerry .... the song "I'm determined to win this race" (according to the info I found on Google) has not been recorded by either Sam Cooke or the Soul Stirrers but has been recorded twice by The Meditations By themselves on their "GOOD NEWS" album and with James Cleveland on "20 GOSPEL GREATS" Sorry , but I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere |

Subject: RE: I'm Determined From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 18 Nov 01 - 09:15 PM O.K., I'll give you what I've got so far... it's none of the above... I'm Determined
Lead & Oh, I'm determined to see Jesus
Lead: To welcome me to my home
Lead: Yes he will Yes he will
Lead: Said he'll take He will bring
Lead: When There'll be That'll give you an idea.. there are a couple of lines here that I'm not sure of, and there are at least two more verses, where the harmonies keep answering "Yes he will.", interspersed with a couple more choruses. In writing out some of these gospel songs, I write them out this way because often the harmony line completes the lead. Onward... Jerry Hi, Art!

Subject: RE: lyr req: I'm Determined From: GUEST Date: 09 Jul 13 - 12:27 PM I think I too remember the song you're looking for. The version I heard was the Soul Stirrers, but don't know who did the lead. I remember it starting. . . So much trouble in this land / So much confusion on every hand / There's a place that I know will come me. Oh, I'm determined to see Jesus And I know he will welcome me He has promised to prepare a mansion There I'll dwell through all eternity Oh, I'll keep singing as I go Sometimes having sorrow, pain and woe But I know he'll be there, in that city so fair to welcome me. . . |
