Can anybody out there help me with finding the lyrics to a song called "Freeman". I know that it was on a Kieran Halpin album, but can't remember which one, and I believe that it was written by a guy named Tim Wood. I think it starts "Well I met him on a motorway, said he was a freeman".

All help much appreciated.

'Freeman' has also been recorded by Alan Burke on 'On The Other Hand', with some minor changes of words. One of my favourite songs & a favourite album. I THINK I remember hearing that the record company were being less than helpful about releasing the original Tim Woods version - or letting anyone else record it. I shall check out the links above for chords, I'd love to sing it.

The original Kieran Halpin vinyl LP is long forgotten but the song is available on "Closing Time in Paradise". Always available dead cheap from Amazon.

I have a probably rare recording on cassette from radio of this being sung by Chris and Joe While....lyrics above pretty accurate! Yes i believe its Tim Woods

This review says that "Freeman" was written by Tim Woods, and was recorded by Alan Burke on Burke's album titled On The Other Hand. I've added the songwriter attribution to the lyrics above.

I believe his name is 'Wood' - no 's'. You can hear his recording of 'Freeman' on Youtube: Freeman.

The song has been recorded also by Scots singer/songwriter, Graham Wilson, who now resides in Perth, Australia, on his album 'Partially Cloudy' Border Recordings BORDCD 002. Wilson has recorded several songs by Wood.

I was talking about Tim Woods to Sanjay Brains Dad - a few weeks ago. we were trying to remember his name. I saw him at dave and ruth Cooper's club when it was at The Robin Hood in Brinsley - when was that - the late 1970's - early 1980's...?.

I remember he pointed to my ovation guitar and said i used to have one of those but a drunk threw a glass at it and it smashed through the front, one night in Denmark. he was working for Ann Dex on the Scandinavian circuit in those far off days.

i seem to remember he stopped with Roger Brain and may be was a friend of Pete Burke who runs the Pokey Hole gig these days...

Maybe Ruth Cooper has an old contact address - he was certainly pretty talented as a performer.

Saw Tim would at the Vine in Leeds in. 1982 singing free man - loved it
He was on with a Dutch guy who was also good

Tom McConville provided fiddle on Tim's "Getting Your Own Back" Album also. Good times back then in Leeds with Tim, Tom, Kieran and Jon Strong etc...and Graham Wilson.

I read sad news in another Mudcat thread that Tim Wood has died, 14 Nov 2021.
