Subject: Freeman From: GUEST,Steve R Date: 18 Nov 01 - 02:12 PM Can anybody out there help me with finding the lyrics to a song called "Freeman". I know that it was on a Kieran Halpin album, but can't remember which one, and I believe that it was written by a guy named Tim Wood. I think it starts "Well I met him on a motorway, said he was a freeman". All help much appreciated. |

Subject: Lyr Add: FREEMAN (Tim Woods) From: Sorcha Date: 18 Nov 01 - 02:21 PM FREEMAN (Tim Woods) I met him on the motorway, said he was a free man And did I have a cigarette He'd been all over travelling, looking for a little gold He said with a laugh, I found nothing yet He had to get out of Ireland The police there they've got a lot of tricks They give a dog a bad name - You better believe that it always sticks chorus: And he was worried about the rain Lord, he'd never seen it rain so hard And I was thinking about that flame that burned in his heart He'd heard about a job in London town He hit the road from Liverpool But if your name is Pat or Michael Some men treat you like a fool And he loved to hear old Brady sing He knew all the words to Arthur Mc Bride And when I put it on my stereo, Old man broke right down and cried He talked about a bar he knew in Dublin Lord, he wished we were there tonight And we talked about the travelling - Sooner or later we're gonna get it right When I left him on that same motorway, It was a bright cafe in a dark night And as I turned away to leave him He said, Lady Luck may she treat you right From: http://www.fiddlers.de/texte/freeman.html |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Freeman From: Hilary Date: 18 Nov 01 - 07:53 PM 'Freeman' has also been recorded by Alan Burke on 'On The Other Hand', with some minor changes of words. One of my favourite songs & a favourite album. I THINK I remember hearing that the record company were being less than helpful about releasing the original Tim Woods version - or letting anyone else record it. I shall check out the links above for chords, I'd love to sing it. H |

Subject: RE: req/ADD: Freeman (Tim Woods) From: Stewie Date: 07 Sep 11 - 07:41 PM I believe his name is 'Wood' - no 's'. You can hear his recording of 'Freeman' on Youtube: Freeman. The song has been recorded also by Scots singer/songwriter, Graham Wilson, who now resides in Perth, Australia, on his album 'Partially Cloudy' Border Recordings BORDCD 002. Wilson has recorded several songs by Wood. --Stewie. |

Subject: RE: req/ADD: Freeman (Tim Woods) From: Big Al Whittle Date: 08 Sep 11 - 07:15 PM I was talking about Tim Woods to Sanjay Brains Dad - a few weeks ago. we were trying to remember his name. I saw him at dave and ruth Cooper's club when it was at The Robin Hood in Brinsley - when was that - the late 1970's - early 1980's...?. I remember he pointed to my ovation guitar and said i used to have one of those but a drunk threw a glass at it and it smashed through the front, one night in Denmark. he was working for Ann Dex on the Scandinavian circuit in those far off days. i seem to remember he stopped with Roger Brain and may be was a friend of Pete Burke who runs the Pokey Hole gig these days... Maybe Ruth Cooper has an old contact address - he was certainly pretty talented as a performer. |
