Subject: Tech: Quicktime has taken over MIDI file From: PaulM Date: 14 Jan 02 - 01:30 PM Hello, I've just had to install Quicktime 5 on my PC (Windows 98) to view a particular file. On the install I was quite careful not to make it the default player for any other formats than the proprietary Apple ones. However, it appears to have made itself the default for midi files when I click on a web link (files on my hard disk are still played by Windows Media Player) Looking at 'File Types' in My Computer / View / Options / File Types, MIDI is set for Windows Media Player. I can't find any options either within IE5 or Quicktime to revert web midi to Windows Media Player. Hope this makes sense, I'm probably missing something really obvious. Thanks for your time. Paul

Subject: RE: Tech: Quicktime has taken over MIDI file From: Mark Cohen Date: 15 Jan 02 - 02:54 PM OK, here's a related question. From this wonderful old-time fiddle tunes site, I downloaded a neat program called vanBasco's Karaoke Player. Only problem is, the little devil insists on jumping up and playing every MIDI file that comes its way. I looked in "Multimedia" on the Window$ control panel, and don't see anything about setting preferences for MIDI players. Is there a way I can use the karaoke player just for the tunes on that website (where it's handy for changing tempos and keys) without having it take over my system? Thanks! Aloha, Mark |
