Subject: Along similar lines to the sushi song...

I recently heard Kirsty MacColl's "In These Shoes" for the first time, and I nearly drove up a tree laughing! Now I'm on a quest to hear more of her stuff; anyone here a fan?

Could it be the Kirsty MacColl song 'In these shoes?'

IN THESE SHOES
(Kirsty MacColl, Peter Wilfred Glenister)

I once met a man with a sense of adventure
He was dressed to thrill wherever he went
He said "Let's make love on a mountain top
Under the stars on a big hard rock"
I said "In these shoes?
I don't think so"
I said "Honey, let's do it here."

So I'm sitting at a bar in Guadalajara
In walks a guy with a faraway look in his eyes
He said "I've got as powerful horse outside
Climb on the back, I'll take you for a ride
I know a little place, we can get there for the break of day."
I said "In these shoes?
No way, Jose"
I said "Honey, let's stay right here."

No le gusta caminar. No puede montar a caballo
(She doesn't like to walk, she can't ride a horse)
Como se puede bailar? Es un escandolo
(But the way she dances, it's a scandal)

Then I met an Englishman
"Oh" he said
"Won't you walk up and down my spine,
It makes me feel strangely alive."
I said "In these shoes?
I doubt you'd survive."
I said "Honey, let's do it.
Let's stay right here."

No le gusta caminar. No puede montar a caballo
(She doesn't like to walk, she can't ride a horse)
Como se puede bailar? Es un escandolo
(But the way she dances, it's a scandal)

This seems to be an exact transcription of the Kirsty MacColl video. I coudn't find any mistakes. -Joe Offer-

She may not have been baptised at all if her parents weren't religious. I take it her name was registered as MacColl though as her brothers etc seem to use that name too

Gee, she did some really funny songs about her love life (or lack thereof).

Here's "England 2, Colombia 0":

And then "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop, Swears He's Elvis" (1981):.

large selection of Kirsty MacColl lyrics http://www.kirstymaccoll.com/songs/kirsty-songs/

I found it frustrating that songs are listed which weren't recorded or weren't released, but then no lyrics are given.

I only looked at a few, but re the lack of her lovelife, Joe, I liked "He never mentioned love."

I don't find much resemblance, Dave, between Ewan's and Kirsty's lyric styles.

So sad the way her life was cut short... Kirsty memorably guested on The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York".

I'd say her lyrics can be wickedly, deliciously clever.
