Found this and thought there might be some sailing types who'd appreciate the link. Even some shanty singers who'd like to fake the background :)

http://www.neropes.com/default.asp

check out the splicing instructions

Here's a clickable link for the site:

www.neropes.com.

I may have missed something, but this does appear to be mostly a commercial site selling line for use in many applications, including modern maritime. Very nice instructions on how to splice, though...

I started sailing at 7 but I don't remember when I started using New England lineage. Must be at least 25 years or more........GREAT LINE!!! I alwyas found them to have a better product and better quality control than Yale and most others. When they were a young company you could get lots of freebies from them to promote their stuff......I never thought they needed it. When they got into the spectra/kevlar stuff they were way out in front!

I used to know the knots and splices pretty good...was once able to tie the bowline onehanded behind my back while I was blindfolded and standing on one leg in 15 seconds....

I spent a little time in the brig when I was in the Navy. Where are all the directions for the ornamental ropework I learned there?

SIGUARD>>>>Thank you for the site. I love the splices!!!

The URL has been forwarded to other members of our "Knot Tieing Guild"

Bill D, Of course, the Ashley book is supreme (like Child's.)

The novel, Shipping News in its first printing, returned me and several kindred friends to the wonders of knots and the guild, with its associations was formed.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

You Knot, Gargoyle? I do too. Have been a member of the knot tying guild. Fancy stuff, to adorn my hair or to hold keys, etc. Here's a site I like: http://www.angelfire.com/ak/skateworld/ or: http://dave.hedgepeth.com/ Fun to look at, Margo

I've not done much ropework myself, but I've been sending this thread out to friends...

In the meantime, http://www.angelfire.com/ak/skateworld/ & http://dave.hedgepeth.com/
