Subject: ding dong the witch is dead From: GUEST,Princess Di fan Date: 30 Mar 02 - 01:05 PM ding dog the witch is dead The Queen Mother just croaked at age 101. I've hated her ever since she started treating Princess Diana like shit. May she rot in pieces. |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: John P Date: 30 Mar 02 - 01:27 PM We used to do "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" as a fiddle tune, sort of Appalachian style with lots of double stops and drones. We threw it in the middle of a song as an instrumental break. It was fun watching the trad music audiences gradually realize where they had heard that tune before. JP |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: Wincing Devil Date: 30 Mar 02 - 01:33 PM <intentional thread drift> I tried to teach myself the fiddle, but the hand positions were reminiscent of the positions you're supposed to force your opponent's hand into in Jiu-Jitsu. You just can't teach an old dog new tricks. WD </intentional thread drift> |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: John P Date: 30 Mar 02 - 01:42 PM I have a bluegrass playing friend that used to do "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in folky ballad style. I worked nicely. Does anyone else have any experience with songs from the Wizard of Oz being done in a folk setting? JP |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: Wincing Devil Date: 30 Mar 02 - 01:47 PM "If I only had a(Brain|Heart|Courage)" seems ideal for setting to bluegrass. The sentiments expressed are augmented by the twanginess of the setting. |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: NELLIE Date: 30 Mar 02 - 01:56 PM I am appalled by the sentiments expressed by Guest on the death of the Queen Mother. Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: Peg Date: 30 Mar 02 - 08:33 PM I disagree that Diana did "bugger all." Her charity work with AIDS sufferers was very ground-breaking; she was seen by millions actually touching and hugging AIDS patients and this was something no public figure had done before that point...and it did a lot to lift the stigma of this disease in the minds of the public; or so say my friends who were active in safe sex awareness campaigns at the time...

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: Tam the bam fraeSaltcoatsScotland Date: 31 Mar 02 - 04:17 AM apart from all of that what else did she do for Britain as a royal, unlike the queen mother who did quite a lot for the country. All she cared about was to get publicity for herself, and when she did she didn't like it. I admit she did a lot for charity but as I say that was so that people would look at her and say that what she was doing was good. if you disagree with that that's fine. I could go on about Princess Di, however I wont.

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: Linda Kelly Date: 31 Mar 02 - 05:29 AM Although a confirmed Republican, I am saddened at the death of the Queen Mother, but do not mourn her as I would not any other 101 year old whether they came from a life of privilege or otherwise. It was a very good innings. I dislike the opportunity to bear comparisons with Princess Diana and their relative contributions since they cannot be comparible, on the ground of age alone! I also dislike the continual slagging off of Diana, especially by those people who have 21 year olds who can barely hold a conversation never mind cope with being plunged into the most dysfunctional family known to mankind. |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 Mar 02 - 09:16 AM A ferret can get through a hole smaller than you'd think.... about the size of 10p piece (25c piece would be comparable) if not smaller. They are renouned for passing through the tiniest of gaps. If you lose a ferret, look for the hole. If you find one and say to yourself, there's no way it could fit through there, then that's the hole it got out of. LTS |

Subject: RE: ding dong the witch is dead From: GUEST,HRH QEII Date: 31 Mar 02 - 01:06 PM Puh-leeze! I just discovered that the BBC has suspended all programming to make room for tributes to my Mum. Now, where am I to hear my football scores? 'Twould make you thankful for a system of broadcasting that isn't run by the gummint, til you consider what happens all too often in the U.S. There, at least, the bandwagon-jumping is voluntary (and therefore inexcusable, I say). |
