While not a very old song, nor socially important, I still am trying to locate the music and lyrics to this song. Everyone seems to remember it, but no one has the music. The operative line from the chorus is "We're gonna lay around the shanty, mama, and get a good buzz on".

I remember this song from the early 70's. One part of the chorus went "We're gonna lay around the shanty, mama, and get a good buzz on". I am not sure if the title is right.

Hi. The song, I believe is called SHANTY. The words as far as I can recall them are:

I'm not too sure of the chords, as I played harp on this in a band but we did it in "G" (C - harp). Try G, G7, A7, D7 or some variation of these. Hope this helps. Kazoo.

check out Jonathan Edwards, My guess is he is guilty of that tune along with many that are equal or better.
