Subject: RE: John B. Keane Dies From: Emma B Date: 30 May 02 - 02:17 PM So glad to have met you - I forgive you for taking the piss! (was taking a picture of the pub early one morning when passing through for my 'scrapbook' when I was aware, through the viewfinder, of someone ostentatiously 'posing' on the doorstep. What better way to start an unexpected meeting? |

Subject: RE: John B. Keane Dies From: GUEST Date: 30 May 02 - 05:37 PM Never to speak ill of the dead (w/a wink to Larry). It is no longer up to us to forgive him, but I agree he was a bit of a right winger. A man who won't be sorely missed by many of us, may he RIP. |

Subject: RE: John B. Keane Dies From: An Pluiméir Ceolmhar Date: 31 May 02 - 06:45 AM I suspect his stature will grow now that he's dead. Some of the plays and novels are classics on a world scale (what about "The Field" - a classic in every sense of the word?). A wonderfully human writer, with warmth and understanding even for the unpleasant characters about whom he manages to write with sympathy by giving some insight into what made them what they are. |
