Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: greg stephens Date: 12 Jun 02 - 03:12 PM I always say "It's been a great gig, thanks for being here, we're going to take home very happy memories of tonight. However, if any of you would like a more tangible souvenir of our time togther....." at which point I wave CD or two about. Generally generates a stampede. Not all to the exit. |

Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: GUEST Date: 12 Jun 02 - 03:15 PM In English clubs, I most often hear it done with a half embarrassed, "Guess what?" (pause) "We've got a CD to sell!" Normally raises a chuckle |

I seem to recall that was Stan Rogers line in the early days... Or so his mom said... "It's a steal at twice the price" is one of my favourite lines... "It's great music to put on when you have to vacuum the cat!" is another... .-)

Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: Phil Cooper Date: 12 Jun 02 - 06:24 PM We offer the audience a chance to buy christmas stocking stuffers, though it's hard to walk with a CD in your sock. We say we have a shrine to capitalism (a line borrowed from the 97th regimental string band). Another tack we use is offering a deal: Three or more Cd's and you get a spoons lesson from Margaret or Kate, 5 or more and you don't have to take the spoons lesson; buy all 9 (soon to be 10) and you get to take me (phil) home for the evening (where I can sit on your sofa drinking beer and watching reruns of Walker Texas Ranger that you've so thoughtfully videotaped for me). So far, no one's done the last option. |

Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: Sam Pirt Date: 12 Jun 02 - 06:27 PM Hi To be honest on this issue I think less is more, if you know what I mean. I have been put off by artists who constantly plug there dam album. And it is always the bit of the gig I hate the most. I do not play music to sell albums, I play it because I love it and it should always stay like that. The same can be said from the audiences perspectives, they have not come to watch you do a sales pitch in as many different forms as possible, have they?? Sorry to be so blunt it is a useful thread but to be honest if I were you tell them before the interval you have an album (or two) and it is called etc..and you will be selling them at the stage etc.. and thats it. Tell them again only if you get an encore. If your doing a set of two sonmgs then tell them you have an album and you have some with you, be pleased its a great achivement. Don't hide your pride under rubbish jokes be honest with the audience and if they like your music I think you will find they will buy your album. That is my opinon of the situation anyway, don't wreck you act with tons of bad CD puns!!! Its a show not a shop!! Cheers, Sam |

The one I can remember was Shel Silverstein's 'Lullabies Legends and Lies': So empty your glasses, before you go home Could I give you one word of advice If you like songs like these I've got lots of CDs Full of lullabies, legends and lies
The other one was Ken Hicks' 'For All the Good People', done to finish up the first set: |

Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: GUEST,ozmacca Date: 12 Jun 02 - 08:53 PM The line we've used on occassion is.. "Now is your chance to have your very own copy of our CD signed by the musicians...... We're told it adds 50 cents to the price at the garage sale." And... "We'd like to announce that we're selling our CD here today. Sales have now reached five figures..... As there are six musicians on it, that means we only have to persuade one more of us to buy it and then we can start on the audience...." |

Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: Celtic Soul Date: 12 Jun 02 - 09:11 PM I don't normally do the sell thing (the Cap'n usually gets those formalities out of the way, and has quite a few good lines). But I've had a moment or 2. Like the time when it was so humid everything was sticking to everything else. I slapped a pair of CD's to my decollatage, and walked around as if nothing were unusual. They never fell off. I forgot to ask how CD sales were that day. |

Subject: RE: Help: best way to say:buy our c.d.-album-tape From: Robin2 Date: 12 Jun 02 - 11:33 PM Heard this line from Aly Bain, and loved it! "The band has of course some things for sale out in the lobby....Mike here has been knitting sweaters ALL winter, lovely things they are too...and some of the other band members have opened a new line of sausages, and of course there's CD's too if you wish." Always gets a chuckle
