Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Susanne (skw) Date: 28 Jun 02 - 04:26 PM Skipper Jack, enjoy yourself and give my love to Swansea, please! It's 20 years since I lived near the top of Gors Avenue, and I'd love to be back. No Maritime Festivals then... |

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Crane Driver Date: 29 Jun 02 - 08:18 AM Well, I hope SOMEONE is coming! Its a great festival, in a great location, in a port with a fascinating but largely forgotten maritime history - once home to more Cape Horners than any other port in Britain. Hi to Gina, Linn, Tom and our other US friends - see you again some day. Andrew |

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Snuffy Date: 01 Jul 02 - 08:30 AM Just got my B&B booked, so I'll be there. Anyone else? WassaiL! V |

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: 8_Pints Date: 01 Jul 02 - 08:38 AM Is there anywhere to park motor-caravan nearby? Bob & Sue vG |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Skipper Jack Date: 01 Jul 02 - 01:28 PM 8 Pints There is a car park which has been used by previous festival-goers, at Swansea Leisure Centre, which is within walking distance of all the festival venues. You get a parking token (70p) from the Leisure Centre. However, this is for each day. I don't know whether the car park is checked on a daily basis? But 70p per day for parking is pretty good value! |

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: John J Date: 01 Jul 02 - 02:29 PM I'd love to come but rather think my SO would whinge loudly as I'm in mid-Wales the weekend before at Morris in the Forest in Llanwrtyd Wells. John :-( |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Skipper Jack Date: 04 Jul 02 - 05:01 AM Come and say hello to us at The Queens Hotel, Gloucester Place on Friday evening 12th July. Plenty of atmosphere, good beer and singaround with festival guests.

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: alanww Date: 10 Jul 02 - 12:55 PM I'll be there! You're bound to recognise me - I'm the one singing shanties, with a grey beard, a breton cap and a blue fisherman's smock (along with about twenty others, I suppose!)
We are three jolly fishermen ...[particularly after the ale at The Queen's, I imagine ...] |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: greg stephens Date: 10 Jul 02 - 01:09 PM Wont be much of a maritime festival if there only twenty people matching that description! |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Skipper Jack Date: 10 Jul 02 - 03:18 PM There could well be more than one person singing shanties! There is a smashing junior group, "The Nipper Jacks" from a local school who perform at the festival and have done so for a number of years. Naturally the personnel changes from year to year. But the enthusiasm is always there. I would be delighted if any Mudcatters who are coming to the festival could come and say hello. I'm the one who will be running around like a blue-arse fly! Looking forward to meeting you. Enjoy the weekend. Dave Robinson.

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Snuffy Date: 12 Jul 02 - 11:17 AM Will be setting off shortly, see you in the Queens tonight. WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: sian, west wales Date: 14 Jul 02 - 03:00 PM Well, Cap'n Jack was right about the blue-arse fly bit! He didn't half cover some ground, between the three stages! Nice to meet Snuffy and (briefly) allanww and the Cap'n himself. And to hear a fair number of singers. Great weather too! Although I'm afraid these two days will turn out to be the sum total of Welsh summer! Well done, Swansea! sian |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Snuffy Date: 14 Jul 02 - 06:40 PM That Welsh sun is quite fierce - I've got back with red arms and neck. Great to be able to put a face to the name, Sian. And a big thankyou to Baggyrinkle for making it all posssible, especially 'catters Skipper Jack, Malcolm in Swansea, and the adorable Madame Gashee. WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: sian, west wales Date: 15 Jul 02 - 05:00 AM Hold on, there, Snuffy. When did you see the sun? Except perhaps for the few minutes you slipped out to talk to Hughie Jones, every time I saw you, you were hunkered happily down in The Queens! hwyl! sian |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Snuffy Date: 15 Jul 02 - 10:06 AM I was on the sea front both days from about 9.30 until the pub opened. You should get there earlier! |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: Skipper Jack Date: 15 Jul 02 - 04:40 PM It was nice meeting you fellow Mudcatters . Thanks for coming. From what I could see - you appeared to be enjoying the event. The local rag says that we had a record turnout, but I suspect that was partly due to the weather! All the performers did a wonderful job and that is what matters to me. Here's to the next one - The 13th Maritime Festival. The "Baggies" are performing at The Mumbles Maritime Festival on the 10th-11th August; Pontardawe Folk Festival-16th & 17th; and then it's up to Hull 0n the 31st -1st September and to other end of the country to Deal in Kent on the 7th & 8th September. Then, it's into the studio to record a new CD in the autumn.

Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: sian, west wales Date: 16 Jul 02 - 12:20 PM I had to go up to Aber. today for a meeting and I've nearly worn my "Old Swansea Town" out -particularly Dave's (Skipper Jack's) version of "Rolling Home". It's got me going all weepy. *sniff* Remember to start another thread for The Mumbles and give us the details. sian |
Subject: RE: Swansea Maritime Festival From: alanww Date: 17 Jul 02 - 12:41 PM Thanks to everyone who performed and particularly those who helped organise a great weekend! Well done Skipper Jack! It was also good to meet the other Mudcatters. I'll be at Hull too so will look forward to seeing the "new young lad" in Baggyrinkle performing his version of Sammy's Gone Away again.
