Yes, I did search the Forum and the DT (and Google) -- I only found discussions in re the lyrics, not chords. Anybody have 'em? I'll take chords for the mando, too.

Thanks 'Catters, Áine

Hi Áine, I sing that song, and the band has chords for it, but I can't lay my hands on them at the moment. I'll post them tonight or tomorrow morning if no one else has done so by that time.

Áine, I hope this helps. I sing the song in G minor, and the guitarist who accompanies me on this tune sent me a note saying this:

"I play mainly G minor, with F major and sometimes substituting an E flat major for the G minor."

He's well known for his casual approach *BG* He also acts as the rhythm section on this tune.

I would expect that substitution comes in the second part of the verse, when the melody goes higher. I'm a very beginning singer, and am just learning myself how all this works.

My hb. plays mandolin, I can ask him tonight what he's playing if this wasn't what you were looking for.

Dear tori,

Please, please, please -- do ask your hb. what he plays on the mando for this song! ;-) And thanks for the other info, too.

Áine, here I am embarassed as all get out. My hb. just told me that he "noodles" on BD on his mandolin, so he doesn't have chords per se. He did say that he uses the same basic set of chords as the guitarist does. Sorry to keep you hanigng on for that.

's all right, tori. I know how 'noodlin' hb.s' are ;-)

Do you think your guitarist could provide a wee bit more definitive set of chords for me? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, Áine

Áine, we're meeting tonight, so I can attempt to match the chords he gives to the words in the verse, at least.

And I thought these were bold chords that could be played on a Docherty guitar, like that Bill Sables plays! I like a bold chord, me; still dining out on 079900 as a thrash Em, learnt here at Mudcat!

      Dm G Dm F
My name is bold Doherty, from the north country
Dm F G Dm
Where there's a still upon every street
G Dm F
Landlady be quicker, and bring us more liquor
Dm G F G Dm
And fill us a pitcher that's stronger than creed
F Dm
If I had your Molly, so pleasant and jolly
F Dm F
Although it's a folly to ask you at all
Dm F
For if I had a glass and a mile to the bottom
G F G Dm
I'd drink to your Molly beside Donegal

This probably won't come out formatted correctly, but if you use your ears a bit, you should be able to work it out

Thank you, Guest -- what's your 'handle' so I can thank you properly?

Don't worry about the formatting, I can figure it out. I really do appreciate all the help from everyone. Mudcatters always come through in a pinch! ;-)

All the best, Áine

Oops -- I forgot to ask you, very helpful Guest, is that chord progression in standard tuning?

And if anyone has the chords for this song in DADGAD or any other dropped/open tunings, I'd love to see them, too.

Thanks again, and all the best, Áine

Not sure what you mean, Aine.

The chords remain the same what ever tuning you use...

Only the fingerings and voicings change.
