Subject: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Bobert Date: 19 Sep 02 - 03:28 PM Okay, I ain't askin' for no pschanaylsis here, though I'm sure I'll get a little... But last night I had a dream that I was gettign ready to perform and my acoustic guitar was filled with dirt right up to the sound hole and as I played, or better yet tried to play, the dirt started belching out of the sound hole, all over the strings as I was trying to pick and then falling down over the bottom of the guitar and then to ground below. Purdy scarey stuff. Well, anyone else ever had any nightmares about a musical instrument.

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Clinton Hammond Date: 19 Sep 02 - 03:32 PM Content with the knowledge that the state of my dreams are only ever even remotely interesting to one person (me) I do have this to add to this thread... How many of you take your work to bed from time to time? When I had other jobs it'd happen, not often, but it would happen... Here's the weird thing... I've NEVER had a gig dream... Or even a gig related dream... Analyse THAT! LOL! Is that what happens when you live your dream? |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Don Firth Date: 19 Sep 02 - 04:01 PM Like Clinton, I've never had a gig dream, nor one having to do with anything unusual about my guitar. I do, however, take work to bed with me. When learning (or relearning) a particular song, if I go over the words in my head as I'm falling asleep, I usually have it pretty solidly in the morning. Seems to work fairly well. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 21 Sep 02 - 10:26 PM I have had lots of guitars through the years, but have only been seriously attached to two of them: a D35 Martin that I had to sell in 1982 and a Taylor 810 that was stolen in 1990. I occasionally have dreams in which one or the other of those guitars finds its way back home. The bad part is waking up and finding it was only a dream. |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 22 Sep 02 - 03:43 AM I keep waking up in a sweaty panic thinking that Manitas has bought another bloody melodeon... I dread him going off to festivals on his own.... The bad part is waking up to find it ISN@T a dream! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: SlickerBill Date: 22 Sep 02 - 02:41 PM One of the best dreams of my life, one where you just do not want to wake up: i'm jamming in a street festival in inner city Winnipeg with Bruce Cockburn. It was mainly an electric set, and the tune was "Burden of the Angel beast. It was great; ridiculous and sublime all at the same time, oh my, ain't life grand. sb |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Thomas the Rhymer Date: 22 Sep 02 - 07:17 PM Out of the misty croud she came... dressed only in sheet music... smiling sardonic, waving ducimer hammers like bumble bee wings, hair flowing behind her in the shape of a celtic harp... and singing perfect harmonies to a song I had just written... and a wink. No one responds to her, and I keep playing though I've long since forgotten what song I'm singing, or even that I'm performing at all... clouds encroach and we emerge into the landscape of the famous castle on the sea spit in France... singing together to our own accompanyment... until perfect resolve has been achieved, to embrace and kiss in ardent harmony with soon to be written traditional songs... only to wake up alone. Again. The nightmare is waking up... ttr |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Catherine Jayne Date: 22 Sep 02 - 07:35 PM I had a dream that I WAS PLAYING a melodeon (I've never touched one let alone play one) and my teeth were crumbling and as I was playing i was spitting my teeth out. I think someone was trying to tell me that if I ever even thought about learning the melodeon it would rot my teeth. Scary. Cat.....dreaming about owning a 5 string fiddle.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 22 Sep 02 - 09:18 PM Hey Bobert! Dream interpretation A) Your subconscious is telling you that you are spending too much time on the Mudcat (the source of all the mud coming out of your guitar) and not enough time pickin'. Dream interpretation B) Your subconscious is confirming that the Mudcat is a source of true inspiration. The mud coming from your guitar represents all the great things you've learned courtesy of the 'Cat. Please pick whichever interpretation suits you best. Bruce

Subject: RE: BS: Guitar Nightmare, No really... From: GUEST,Van Lingle Date: 22 Sep 02 - 11:54 PM Some time ago my much cherished Lowden started developing Willie Nelson syndrome (a worrying away of the top where I often anchor my pinkie while fingerpicking) and to prevent any further damage I replace the disinegrating pick guard. Problem solved but I started having recurring nightmares that my beauty was wasting away and developing holes all over it's box and was losing it's structural integrity. Sometimes I'd be playing a gig and treating it very gently so as to make through the job without her collapsing. These were very realistic dreams and went on for about 5 or 6 years but haven't come around lately. Whew! vl |
