I have had a note sent to me by the Fishers of Lough Neah in Ireland. They are being starved out by a royal charter granted by King Charles to a single company. Would you all be interested in getting some attention for them, buy asking permission to dump some Eals into the harbour from the deck of the Beaver? We can even be ecco friendly by dumping live Eels from the Boston region, so as not to hurt any Eels in the endevor. We may include some Salmon Fishing Natives who have a similar problem in Canada, so as a tip of the hat to the Revolutionists dressing as Natives... what say you princes of New England?

um...the Harbor is still pretty polluted. Cool idea, though.
Whose permission would one ask? This sort of act would be considered illegal on proibably at least several fronts, not the least of which is that most of the waterfront property near the Harbor is privately or corporately owned...maybe asking the Mayor might work, but he's an Italian.
This sounds like a worthy cause, not sure if Boston is the place to make an impact with this statement...despite its huge native irish population.Now if ya wanted to organize a ceili to help raise awareness of their plight, you might get some more willing cooperation.
This sort of thing lands people in jail though, espeially these day. Sad but true...

Hi InOBU, can you shed any more light on what's going on with this & who's doing what to who? Why, Boston & why woulld you want to can up the harbor by tossing in eels & tea? Who's gonna be coming to this clean up party? The Beaver is in worst shape than the harbor but it's tied along side of what I believe is a public pier. I don't think it'd be illegal if the proper permits were in hand (City of Boston version's of the EPA 8th floor city hall) but mind you because of the harbor's toxic history it'd "have" to be eco friendly. Bostonians love a party & a good cause & seeing that they can't toss Bush over the rail we might well want to give the heave ho to some other deserving character. The Mayor may be whatever he is but he's been known to back more than a few decent causes. Keep updating, anything for a good fight. Barry

I was kinda joking about Mayor Menino; though I find him a bit mealy-mouthed at times he's not such a bad guy with *some* progressive social issues.
I am Italian-Irish so it is my own personal jibe at the Mafia-run Boston political scene (Irish and Italian Mafia).
I do like that idea of throwing Bush in the harbor...

Happy there is some interest! Here is the low down... King Charles gave the fishing rights to an English absentee landlord for the largest body of water in Ireland. The landlord has mismanaged the Lough for generations, at the expence of the rights of a group of fishermen, who have never had property rights on land, but got all they get from the lough. As a result the Lough is overfished, and they are artificially poor. They want more control over their fishing and an end to paying high rents to a parasite in order to feed their families.
Like our own objection to taxation without representation, I was thinking they might get some attention is Boston Irish folks, asked permission from the varrious powers that be (I can help with this... ) if Eels live in the harbour, as I believe they do, to buy a few Eels to represent the company owned by the land lord... the Toome Eel Fishery, and as Tea was poured into the harbour, we'd pur Eels back in, asking thouse communities which buy Eels from that company (mostly in Holland I believe, I can ask today...) to boycott Toome Eels until the Lough is owned by Irish fishermen again. I think the idea that by reason of "royal" birth, someone who has no conection to the land should profit at the expence of the eccology and well being of people who have always lived on the Lough.
I think it could be a grand party, a Celi, (I'll bring the pipes) and a wee bit of dress up, and set a few Eels free for the press.
