Subject: RE: The Lady of Shalotte From: IanC Date: 18 Nov 02 - 12:14 PM Presumably based on the poem by Tennyson. Here's the Lady of Shallott lyrics (music apparently by Loreena McKennitt. Here's more info about the poem and the legend. :-) |

Subject: RE: The Lady of Shalott From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Nov 02 - 12:33 PM I remember with amusement a remark, I think by Jane Marple in one of Agatha Christie's mysteries, that the Lady of Shalott (not to be confused with Julia Child, the Lady of Shallot) didn't have two wits to rub together. Subject: RE: The Lady of Shalotte From: Peg Date: 18 Nov 02 - 06:53 PM anyone in the UK, this shop has some wonderful images for sale. They adhere stringently to copyright law (unlike mamny purveyors of art reproductions) so they have a rough go making their business lucrative. I have found things there I have not seen anywhere else... www.glastonburyromantics.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Lady of Shalott From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 19 Nov 02 - 10:20 AM Guest, it's info on the song, as requested. That copy of the poem (IanC's link) has some of the most careless typos I've ever seen. I hope some non-English speaker isn't trying to make sense out of them. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Lady of Shalott From: IanC Date: 19 Nov 02 - 11:03 AM Yeah, odd in't it? That's what you get for posting a link to the one site that had it down as lyrics rather than the (many) sites where the poem is posted. I wonder if Loreena McK. actually sang those words, though I suppose I have to be disappointed and accept they are probably just poorly transposed from the song! Some of the entries in DT used to be about the same quality (!) ;-) Ian |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Lady of Shalott From: Barbara Date: 19 Nov 02 - 01:50 PM The only singing version of this poem I know of is one by Ann Lister, and it's gorgeous. I have a vague reccollection of typing in the words. They aren't here? I would suspect that it is her tune that McKennit uses. Is there a link for the tune? Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Lady of Shalott From: GUEST,Guest Date: 19 Nov 02 - 04:06 PM The Panama Limited Jug Band played in London in 1969 at Les Cousins. They made an LP for Harvest (EMI), SHVL 753, with a number of cuts including Cocaine Habit and Round and Round; this record now available only at dealers in old material. The two tracks listed above have made it to "Collected Artists" cds (one is Matchbox Days put out by Big Beat UK. Some of their folk pop had an Australian slant. Apparently the band didn't last long. Cannot find their Lady of Shallot (I believe it was). Perhaps not recorded. I doubt that it had much to do with that old stinker by Lord Tennisshoes. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Lady of Shalott From: GUEST,Guest Date: 19 Nov 02 - 05:25 PM Thanks, RolyH. I vaguely recalled a UK student who brought with him tapes he had made of a lot of older folk type material, but I was beginning to doubt my memory. It was a long time ago. I copied his tapes but they are gone, along with my memory of the content. Seems that it was a humorous take-off. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Lady of Shalott From: maeve Date: 06 Sep 15 - 12:13 PM Thanks for that information, Guest. The original poster hasn't posted anything here under that name since 2003, I believe, but perhaps he and others will take note of the thread's revival, and be glad to learn of the re-release. |
