I know the song, but not the lyrics. As far as I know they are in Scottish Gailg, which I don't speak.

If I can get them anywhere I'll come back on this, but I'm not sure where to start, so I may be gone for some time !

staimpí or steampaí is boxty, a cake made from grated raw potato, says Foclóir Uí Dónaill.

I think that's the song alright.

And looks like its Gaeilge rather than Gailg. Must be Sean Corcoran's northern accent had me confused.

hi everybody again!i have no knowledge of gaelic language, but i would like to my group play this song!I take look to earlier thread ( sugested by noreen) but i think that isn't same version ( only some part of song!)so i will very gracefull for phillipa lyrics version of staimpi. for all, try to listen cran version of this song on their album :black,black,black.. they have very tastefull version of songs, and all three have strong male voices! marin, [e-mail]

Ciarili sent me the following lyrics and translation for Staimpí. I don't know if this ruder version is the one that Cran does; I don't have the album on which they sing this song.

maracirac - what will you and your group, who don't know Irish, do about learning the pronunciation ... is the Irish spelling plus the recording adequate for you, do you have someone who can help coach you? Maybe you can make a version in your own language and do the chorus in Irish??

Tá míthuigbheáil i gceist san amhrán seo: the chorus of this song should read : "Rachainn leat" meaning "I would go with you" (and all that implies) rather than "Raithineach", the metre fits and it sounds very very similar to "Raithineach" and has probably been mis-recorded, mis-transcribed or mispronounced by a non-Gaelic speaker/singer at an early stage.
