Subject: Lyr Req: Bongo and his drum From: Felipa Date: 19 Jan 03 - 04:24 AM dimly remembered from childhood. Bongo lost his drum. The baboon said don't cry, I'be your drum instead (drumming on tummy). The big baboon went bum, bum, bum chorus: Poor little Bongo, Bongo lost his drum I think Burl Ives was the singer on the recording |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Bongo and his drum From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Aug 09 - 11:35 AM According to the extensive Burl Ives discography at this Swedish web site, the song is called BONGO AND HIS BABOON DRUM, and it came from the album "Capt. Burl Ives' Ark," Decca LP DL8587, 1958. A 30-second sound sample on that page contains these lyrics (as I hear them): Poor little Bongo. Bongo lost his drum. Bongo lived in the Belgian Congo. Bongo lived near the yellow sun. Bongo beat on a bamboo drum. The bamboo drum went rum-tum-tum. Monkeys tangled through the treetops. Lions leaped in the yellow sun.... |

Subject: Lyr Add: BONGO BONG (Manu Chao) From: Bob the Postman Date: 22 Aug 09 - 11:53 AM The following lyrics are NOT the lyrics requested, but they ought to be cited in this context as they seem to chronicle the later career of Ives' drumming Bongo. From the song "BoNgo Bong" by Manu Chao on his CD "Clandestino": BONGO BONG (Manu Chao) Mama was queen of the mambo Papa was king of the Congo Deep down in the jungle I started bangin' my first bongo Every monkey'd like to be In my place instead of me Cause I'm the king of bongo, baby I'm the king of bongo bong I went to the big town Where there is a lot of sound From the jungle to the city Looking for a bigger crown So I play my boogie For the people of big city But they don't go crazy When I'm bangin' in my boogie I'm the "king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong" Hear me when I come King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong They say that I'm a clown Making too much dirty sound They say there is no place for little monkey in this town Nobody'd like to be in my place instead of me Cause nobody go crazy when I'm bangin' on my boogie I'm the king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong Hear me when I come "King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong" Bangin' on my bongo all that swing belongs to me I'm so happy there's nobody in my place instead of me I'm a king without a crown hanging loose in a big town But I'm the king of bongo baby I'm the king of bongo bong King of the bongo, king of the bongo bong Hear me when I come, baby, king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong... |
