Yes, it's true. The Paton family, including Sandy and Caroline (and I'm pretty sure Robin) will perform at the Branford Folk Music Society coffeehouse on Saturday, April 12, 2003.

Here's info from the BFMS website: http://folknotes.org/branfordfolk/

"Trinity Coffeehouse is in the basement of Trinity Episcopal Church on the green in Branford. To get there, take I-95 Cedar Street exit #54, go south on Cedar Street to the end (crossing Route 1), turn left on Main Street. Trinity Church is the last church on the green. Concerts begin at 8:00 P.M. (doors open at 7:30). Admission is $10 nonmembers, $8 members, $3 children except as noted below. For more information, call 203-488-7715. Email: branfordfolk@yahoo.com

Sandy and Caroline Paton are two of folk music's most valued treasures. Not only have they been stellar performers of traditional music and outstanding contemporary ballads for more than four decades, but they have also been the mainstay proprietors of Folk-Legacy Records in Sharon, Conn. They have blessed us often with performances at the Trinity Coffeehouse, so come early to make sure you get a good seat and bring your voice for surely there will be a good deal of audience participation this night."

Hope to see a few mudcats there!

As Bobert would say, "Dang!!!"

Here are two of my favorite folks playing and singing just over the hill, and I'll be doing a concert that night in Stamford, down the road a piece, with the Gospel Messengers!

Sing loud, Sandy & Caroline... maybe if I go outside during the break I'll be able to hear you..

Have a wonderful night, Barbara... I know that you will.

Jerry

Branford was always a favorite gig for Boarding Party and Rock Creek. Attentive audiences and good sound.

I would love to be at this one! But the fact that I am playing that night, not to mention the 14 hour drive, makes it tough. Go get 'em, my loves.

Mick

Having just heard them here in DC I know the folks in Brandford are in for a treat.
Jerry, say hello to all the 'messengers for me.
Hey, Padre, missed you at the ethical society service for JE.
best regards, Chance

The Patons were the official state troubadours of Connecticut in 1993.

Here's a write-up about them from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts site.

I sure do wish I could be there. It's a lovely time----always---hearing the Patons. And Branford is filled with great folks. I think I played their twice back when I was still able to do it. I seem to remember a huge iron cauldron somewhere in town !!?? What was that thing for ?? Maybe something for trying whale blubber ? I did enjoy going around town and photographing some unique things. One was the window of a resale shop called something like "BILL AND MILDRED'S RESALE SHOP--------but Bill's name had a black line crossing it out. So I guess it was just "MILDRED'S RESALE SHOP" by the time I discovered it. There was certainly a story behind that. I bought a sport jacket there. It's the only one I own that still buttons.

Give me love to Sandy And Caroline !!! I just got my two LPs on brand new CDs from them at Folk Legacy. They have JUST NOW issued them in that modern format.--Yes, "On The Wilderness Road" and "That's The Ticket"---- are now on CD. But I'll be mentioning this in another thread too. It's available from Folk Legacy Records and probably Camsco Music too. $14.95 each--plus $3.00 shipping)

Despite Sandy's swearing for years that Folk-Legacy would not go digital, then that they would not stop making vinyl...
I spoke with Caroline Paton recently and she tells me Folk-Legacy has just invested in some new technology and they will be able to make small runs of CDs cost-effectively, so they hope to be able to keep some items in publication that otherwise could vanish. I can't wait to see the new catalog!

To have Jim Ringers album for Folk Legacy on CD will be just great.

Art, I looked up the records and you did indeed perform in Branford in 1987 and 1992. Unfortunately, I missed both (and in fact all) performances during those years. I don't know about any huge iron cauldron, although I keep looking for it as I drive around town!

The Patons concert is this coming Saturday night.

I've only heard the Patons "live" once, and it was during a restaurant meal where I didn't necessarily hear every syllable due to the people around me and the food in my mouth. No wait, I heard a bit of them at NOMAD 2 years ago.

Anyway, what songs are their very best that I should request?

I don't think I've heard them do a bad one. Don't let them neglect the mountain ballads. But I'm inclined to give folks with such broad repertoire's total free rein; they are likely to sing something we have never heard before!
