I have a constant clicking sound through my speakers and its very irritating. Its a bit like a fast geigercounter! I have tried to wiggle the connection on the basis that it might be dirty but to no effect.

Any ideas on getting rid of it?

Alan

Could be lots of things, from hardware to cables to your driver.

But some speakers tend to make exactly that noise when cell phones or other signal interference is around. Try moving the speakers away from the monitor and turning off or moving other electronic equipment. If this is the cause, you might try a better shielded cable; other wise move the stuff away permanently.

Maybe you were playing Grand Prix Racing on your computer and left your turn signal on!

But seriously.... You might try temporarilly swapping speakers with a friend or relative to see if the problem's in the speakers or somewhere else. If your mother-in-law's speakers don't click on your machine and/or yours click on her machine, throw yours away and buy some like hers. If hers click, dig a little deeper.

Or, do like I do and only turn the speakers on when you damn well want to hear something. I'm sorry, but I don't want a bunch of silicon, plastic and copper saying "Welcome!" every time I turn it on! Leaving the speakers off saves me the trouble of having to tell the computer "Kiss my ass!" or "F**k off D**khead!" every morning.

NicoleC: I have had a go at moving the equipment round a bit but no luck so far.

Bee-dubya-ell: Not tried anyone else's speakers yet - will have a go at that.

Also thanks for pointing out the other thread Snuffy but I had already scoured it to see if anything might help and nothing seemed to. For instance, I tried located the setting on Windows Explorer Complete Navigation, as recommended by Burke on 25 March and it was already on NONE.

I get the clicking all the time, whether logged onto Mudcat or not. Having said that, I do have broadband from cable. Could that be a factor?

But you had broadband/cable before, Alan, and no clicks- presumably they've just started since you rebuilt yr system with the new power supply?

Is everything else as it was before? I'd look at the things that have changed, rather than starting from scratch!

No, Noreen, I had the clicking noise before my computer was rebuilt into a new midi case - I had hoped that the rebuiding would solve the problem. Originally, it developed gradually, so I suppose that may suggest a connection problem?
