Alignment of chords

I'm sure I saw somewhere on this forum a way to reset your computer so that chords are correctly positioned against lyrics on songs pulled from the internet. can anyone help?

Presumably it depends on your font using the same spacing as that used on the internet page. So you could try changing the font (try courier?) in whatever wordprocessing thingy you've cutnpasted into.
I usually just give in & add spaces or tabs to realign manually though.

Oh here's a solution posted earlier by CLUIN:-

If you're browser isn't set up to display its default font as a mono-spaced font like Courier, then those chords won't line up properly with the words below. You'll have to cut and paste the song & chords to a text file and set the font to a mono-spaced one in Notepad or a word processing program.

So guest was more or less right!

Not being that well versed in the systems, could you copy and paste it in between 'preformat' tags ?

Well I usually copy and past the stuff onto Word - but the chords always end up in the wrong places, mind you I will definitely have to try courier fonts next time as advised by the mudcatters!

For almost anything you copy and paste off the internet, you'll find it much simpler (at least with Word) to:

copy (Control-C) and

"Edit - Paste Special - Unformatted Text" (Alt-E, S, then arrow up or down to select "Unformatted Text" in the drop-down, and Enter.)

After you get it pasted, just select it all and change to Courier if spacing is important.

If you do a straight Copy and Paste (Ctl-C Ctl-V) you often get little bits and pieces of graphics markers and other html/java garbage (like live links) that you don't usually want, and then you have to do lots of deletions and cleanup and "unlinks." Usually, the text is all that's going to come across clean, and it's really all you want in most cases.

The PasteSpecial - Unformatted gets you all the letters and spaces and the linebreaks, and not much else.

Very rarely you may find a site that uses a lot of "table" setup, where a straight past may work better, but it's not too hard to tell which you need once you've seen the results from both.

If you try one paste form and it doesn't look right, you can always "undo" with a Ctl-Z and paste it back the other way. Pasting doesn't take it out of memory, so you don't have to go back and copy again in order to paste again.

If you're posting to an html web page, you set up in monospaced font like courier, and put spaces in to line things up. Then you put it between <pre> and </pre> tags before you paste it to the web page, to keep the html interpreter from "collapsing" the spaces. No matter how many blank spaces you put in - in one string, html only displays one of them without the pre/endpre tags.

Hi, Mexican - it gets complicated if you use sophisticated software. If you use Notepad and just handle it as a text (*.txt) file, it should work pretty easy.
