Subject: N.A.G.- ho-hum music file chaos -ugh! From: katlaughing Date: 21 Jul 03 - 07:19 PM I guess there must be something in the fact that Jason Freeman created some new software for Gnutella, music file sharing, but his application seems like another ho-hum-oh-THIS-is-art? piece of bullshit; a reinvented avant-garde idiocy. He's got press in the NYTimes and, today, on ALl Things Considered on NPR. What he is calling art sounds much like someone skipping through the dials of a radio tuner...nothing new in the sound at all, except it all came from the Internet via a search function of his program N.A.G. It made me sure that he'd probably never had anything but a digital radio in his life! He does say that even he doesn't care for some of the resulting "collages." Anyway, I'd be interested in what you all think, esp. about this particular software and music on the net in general being used this way. Thanks, kat |

From: Bill D Date: 22 Jul 03 - 11:36 AM *grin*..like an 'artist' using his dog to choose the next paint color, and throwing a dart at the canvas to decide where to apply it. It is sillyness incarnate, but some artists have built careers on this sort of thing. |
