A friend has asked for help on this one, and I can't find anything on Mudcat or elsewhere on the net. She and her band have listened to the recording till they are "blue" in the face" but cannot make sense of the last verse.

CHORUS:
There is no going back
We're too deep in it now
There is no limit now
No going back
You've got the women now
No going back

LAST VERSE:
Alone I'm going nowhere
But with friends here at my side
We'll face the bitter(?) future and a stormy ride
We'll finish what we started
Go on as we begin
.................
.................

Can anyone fill in the blanks please?

Joan, you said "Poozies?" do you know which album it is from, or more info. The problem with lyrics like these in internet searches is that the words and phrases are very common in ordinary written articles and even combinations of phrases are hard to track down in a search.

My Poozies album, called Infinite Blue, doesn't have a track by this name.

Sandra Kerr and some women members of a Miners' Support Group in Staffordshire made a cassette of songs, with the title track 'No Going Back' (I think) during the 1984-85 Miners' Strike. It may be them rather than the Poozies you're thinking of.

Helen, thanks for trying. My friend isn't sure it's by the Poozies, that was just a guess on her part, and may be a red herring - I have a couple of earlier Poozies albums than Infinite Blue and it's not on those either. A search on "alone I'm going nowhere" brings up nothing on the net, so basically I'm relying on someone seeing this thread who knows/has the lyrics already.

Georgina, our posts crossed in the ether! Thanks for that info. It may well be that cassette.

A further search reveals that the song was written by Sandra Kerr (no lyrics on the website, and the track is not listed on any of the CDs listed on the website). As well as the cassette mentioned by Georgina, it appears on Sandra's "Yellow, Red & Gold" CD, and on the Sisters Unlimited CD "No Limits" - neither of which appear to be currently available.

So, has anyone out there got one of those and can decipher the lyrics please?

Joan

Maybe you should contact Sandra directly?

I found a page that gave her contact details as:

Telephone: 01665 712488
Email sandra.kerr@which.net

No idea if those details are still correct (the page was from March 2002)

Thanks, Ed, I'll try that if no one comes up with the lyrics.

According to Fellside, Sandra Kerr's "Yellow, Red & Gold," Fellside FECD152, can be purchased from that site.

Also, Harbourtown Records seems to be offering "No Limits" by Sisters Unlimited (Peta Webb, Sandra Kerr, Rosie Davis and Janet Russell).

This page says "No Going Back" is in the repertoire of Faith Petric and Three Sheilas (Judy Small, Kavisha Mazzella and Bronwyn Calcutt), who performed it at the Brunswick [Australia] Music Festival.

There was also an LP by Polly Bolton called "No Going Back," but I don't know if it contains the song you're looking for.

Finally, there's a long MP3 sample on the site of the Nottingham Clarion Choir. -- Click here to play. I attempted to transcribe it, but one word or phrase still eludes me:

The world is turning, changing with the seasons of the year
Now it's ... (?) where once the earth was cold and bare.
Streams feed the rivers, rivers feed the sea,
And the strength of my friends will feed the change in me. CHORUS

Since the miners' strike has ended, a new life has begun.
We're different women after all we've seen and done.
We've learned our worth divided. Now we've made our choice.
We may have lost our battle but we've found our voice. CHORUS

Life's hard if you're a worker; it's harder if you're black.
It's hard if you are old or poor or get the sack.
It's harder for a woman when she tries to say
That she doesn't the kitchen sink is where she'll stay. CHORUS

Joan, if you have more than this, please post all that you have.

Jim, thanks for that. I did contact Sandra Kerr, and she very kindly supplied the missing bits in the last verse, which is:

Alone I'm going nowhere but with friends here at my side
We'll face the bitter future and the storm we'll ride
We'll finish what we started, go on as we begin
With only chains to lose and all the world to win.
