Subject: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Mark Clark Date: 04 Aug 03 - 12:23 PM It's finally happened. According to official Mudcat records, this is my 2000th post and I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be useful to anyone. I realize the volume of my contributions pales in comparrison to many others and this is probably the first post on Mudcat with no redeeming value whatever, but… Oh, what the hell! - Mark |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: GUEST,MMario Date: 04 Aug 03 - 12:30 PM m'gad! Mark! I *cannot believe* that you would post such a worthless and self-serving piece of drivel. *grin* congratulations on 2000 posts and Thanks! for being a part of MudCat |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Sorcha Date: 04 Aug 03 - 03:47 PM I don't think I'll say how many (too embarassing) but I've been here since 14 Jan. 00...................... |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: artbrooks Date: 04 Aug 03 - 03:58 PM Personally, I have no problem with embarassing Sorcha...12902 posts. I'm barely up to 1500.... |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Amos Date: 04 Aug 03 - 04:18 PM We could bridge over to a new subject with that brush-off, Red. But it wouldn't get to the root of Mark's question. When it comes to tooth housin', what jaw see is what jaw get! A |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: GUEST,MMario Date: 04 Aug 03 - 04:19 PM glad I've been here longer then Sorcha - (because I got 7.34 times as many posts as Mark!) |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Mark Clark Date: 04 Aug 03 - 04:44 PM Okay, what else do some of you ever do? Sorcha's 12,902 in 927 days averages 13.92 posts per day! My average, over 1,387 days is only 1.44 posts per day, quite a paltry average now that I work it out. <g> - Mark |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Tig Date: 04 Aug 03 - 05:01 PM So how come you know how many times you have posted?? Is this a secret vice we ought to share - counting postings :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Amos Date: 04 Aug 03 - 05:03 PM I somehow managed to churn out 13,176 posts in less than 45 months. I am ashamed,. I tell you!! A |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Bill D Date: 04 Aug 03 - 05:31 PM about 8300 in 6½+ years..seems like a nice, steady average to me. (first post was late Oct. 96, using a different version of my name.Bill D began in Jan 97.) I don't type OR think as fast as some here.... |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Bill D Date: 04 Aug 03 - 05:34 PM and I see we'll be hitting 1,000,000 'offical' posts ..maybe this week! (counting the ones of gargoyles that have been deleted, maybe 2,000,000..*grin*) |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Amos Date: 04 Aug 03 - 07:34 PM Well, Garg was a lot meaner when he was younger and thinner and could still afford a midlife crisis....or a second childhood....or whatever. But they have adjusted his meds since then so he can still be terribly smart without also being insanely cruel. Life is good! A |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Little Hawk Date: 05 Aug 03 - 12:50 PM I'm at 7864 posts with this one. Fairly respectable, but I could've done more. I wonder how I can find out how many of them pertained to William Shatner, and what would I do with that vital info once I had it? - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 06 Aug 03 - 10:06 AM Mark, how can you say "this is probably the first post on Mudcat with no redeeming value whatever" as it has inspired us all to find out where we rate in the posting scale. Mine is a wimpy 353 since Feb 02 - however I'm pleased to say that my friend JennyO, who was completely computer illiterate until she was given a computer by her brother & son just before Christmas, has posted 680 times in 8 months. sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: artbrooks Date: 06 Aug 03 - 11:38 AM If JennyO has posted 680 times in 8 months, that's 85 times per month. Should we give her 43 postings credit if she's going to be offline for 2 weeks? |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: greg stephens Date: 06 Aug 03 - 11:49 AM Well, I've only just passed 3000. In truth, I stand amazed at my own moderation (as somebody famous once remarked in a different context). |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 06 Aug 03 - 12:11 PM The issue is not how many posts has one made, but how many has one not made. How many times have you ditched the post before hitting the "submit" button because it would make you look like (A) a pompous ass, (B) an idjit, (C) an insensitive creep, (D) all of the above. Of course, some of us don't bother with such concerns and just blindly post away in scattergun fashion. Hence the thankfully small but far from insignificant number of posts by pompous asses, idjits and insensitive creeps.... Bruce |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: JennyO Date: 06 Aug 03 - 12:56 PM Well I think you should give me 43 posts credit. Probably more. I have been away for about a week several times since November, not to mention all the festivals where I was away and......and....... |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: harpgirl Date: 06 Aug 03 - 01:36 PM Well, everyone knows I'm NOT A MONOPOLIZER!!!! On the other hand, if we count posts inspired by my postings, I might be way up there! (some call it troublemaking, some say I'm talking out of my nether regions!!) LOL hg |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Amos Date: 06 Aug 03 - 02:43 PM I think we are all secretly quite certain already that we are idjits and insensitive creeps. Certainly, in my own case, there is no question, and my reputation as such has been well-established and confirmed over and over by those highly qualified to make such judgements. But I wish there was some way to count the number of posts one has inspired!! That would be a number worth tracking! It would show an index of the multiplication effect of thoughts once they are expressed. While we're at it we should have a means of tracking the second- and third-generation ripples. And if we could backtrack thoughts to other sources all the better -- we could really see where the original thinking is going on. I bet it would boil down to about ten people, planet wide! A A |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: greg stephens Date: 06 Aug 03 - 03:06 PM Youre right, Amos. One flutter of a butterfly's wings is meant to be able to generate a hurricane on the other side of the world. What must just one of Spaw's farts given rise to? |
Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: artbrooks Date: 06 Aug 03 - 04:31 PM Just think...if we counted the number of posts an individual has inspired, William Shitner would be well above...4. Of course, there is a certain school of thought that says Mr. Shitner is both Dreadful Guest and Anon.Guest. |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Chip2447 Date: 07 Aug 03 - 12:02 AM 397 since march of 01, no telling how many cookieless guests. I must be slipping, I generally have more opinionated b.s. to toss about. Perhaps I just dont have anything worthwhile to say... kinda like now... Chip2447 |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Amos Date: 07 Aug 03 - 12:47 AM Harpgirl: I don't mind you talking out of your nether regions, as long as you're up front about it, A |

Subject: RE: BS: P2K Problem Emerges From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 07 Aug 03 - 12:49 AM Perhaps a system requiring full documentation of the inspiration for postings is in order. A truly original statement garners the poster a score of 1. A statement inspired by another is divided equally between the inspirer and inspiree with each creditted with ½ post. Subsequent postings inspired by the inspiration ad infinitum would be creditted to all concerned at increasingly smaller increments. The former accounting staff of the ENRON Corporation can be hired to keep track of it all and they can figure out some way to capitalize all those postings and use them as a substitute for real money so Max can pay the bills. Weirdness abounds tonight. Bruce |
