Okay, what else do some of you ever do? Sorcha's 12,902 in 927 days averages 13.92 posts per day! My average, over 1,387 days is only 1.44 posts per day, quite a paltry average now that I work it out. <g>

about 8300 in 6½+ years..seems like a nice, steady average to me. (first post was late Oct. 96, using a different version of my name.Bill D began in Jan 97.)

Well, Garg was a lot meaner when he was younger and thinner and could still afford a midlife crisis....or a second childhood....or whatever. But they have adjusted his meds since then so he can still be terribly smart without also being insanely cruel.

Mark, how can you say "this is probably the first post on Mudcat with no redeeming value whatever" as it has inspired us all to find out where we rate in the posting scale.

Mine is a wimpy 353 since Feb 02 - however I'm pleased to say that my friend JennyO, who was completely computer illiterate until she was given a computer by her brother & son just before Christmas, has posted 680 times in 8 months.

The issue is not how many posts has one made, but how many has one not made. How many times have you ditched the post before hitting the "submit" button because it would make you look like (A) a pompous ass, (B) an idjit, (C) an insensitive creep, (D) all of the above.

Of course, some of us don't bother with such concerns and just blindly post away in scattergun fashion. Hence the thankfully small but far from insignificant number of posts by pompous asses, idjits and insensitive creeps....

I think we are all secretly quite certain already that we are idjits and insensitive creeps. Certainly, in my own case, there is no question, and my reputation as such has been well-established and confirmed over and over by those highly qualified to make such judgements.

But I wish there was some way to count the number of posts one has inspired!! That would be a number worth tracking! It would show an index of the multiplication effect of thoughts once they are expressed. While we're at it we should have a means of tracking the second- and third-generation ripples. And if we could backtrack thoughts to other sources all the better -- we could really see where the original thinking is going on. I bet it would boil down to about ten people, planet wide!

Perhaps a system requiring full documentation of the inspiration for postings is in order. A truly original statement garners the poster a score of 1. A statement inspired by another is divided equally between the inspirer and inspiree with each creditted with ½ post. Subsequent postings inspired by the inspiration ad infinitum would be creditted to all concerned at increasingly smaller increments. The former accounting staff of the ENRON Corporation can be hired to keep track of it all and they can figure out some way to capitalize all those postings and use them as a substitute for real money so Max can pay the bills.

Weirdness abounds tonight.
