If I wasnt already committed I would be at Grove any way. Bit late to advertise it in here as it clashes with whitby as well. Hope it all goes well any way.

Is this anything to do with, or perhaps a replacement for, the Face The Music Festival, which was originally scheduled from 13th to 17th August in St Anne's, but was cancelled due to lack of funding from the local council?

That's the one Joan.......

One Hotel however offered some backing plus a few odds and ends (food and drinks etc...) plus a lot of time By John Gibney and Sue Arrow re.Acoustic Roots section -

- we came in at the last minute (after being told we had been cancelled due to lack of funds earlier this year) to help John and Sue out, along with several other local bands and artists who all worked for the fun of it (and it was!).

It is hoped that next year the funding will be there..... but don't hold your breath -

and it did offer a chance to raise some more cash for ARC

It's good that it was "rescued", but a pity that it was "last minute" - I didn't see this thread in time to give out any publicity via "Folkal Point", unfortunately. I know a number of people who had been planning to go to some of the original concerts, and who may well have turned up for the free craic if they'd known about it. Glad it turned out okay in the end, and here's hoping that next year's effort will have several sponsors, so this situation can be avoided.

Joan

Sorry _ I gave out the wrong info on Sounds of Folk I think. It's a shame you didn't let me know - I could have announced it for you.

Hope it went well?

As I say I didn't know till Wednesday night at the Falcon when John Gibney called in to ask us to help them out......

I posted it Thursday - then met up with John and Sue Friday night - to put some backings together (John & Sue couldn't get their band together it was such short notice!) - from the sounds of it there wasn't much notice! - but I'm sure John and Sue will have done everything within there means to have saved the acoustic section - this showed on the day...

If it hadn't have been for John Bond (t'ther half Penny Black) having been taken ill and spending time in hospital - which resulted in us having to cancel a block of gigs - we wouldn't have been able to have gone...

Let's hope that next year the local council will realise that they need to support such events and the general public enjoy them -

I went past the Band Stand yesterday (Kings of Swings event) and once again the area was full of people enjoying themselves.

Of course the only people who will contact the council will most likely be the ones who will complain the boating pool was drained - not the ones who enjoyed it....   sod's law!

cheers - Pete
