Subject: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 27 Oct 03 - 01:10 PM Did anyone out there see the Michael Parkinson interview with Meg Ryan? If so, what did you make of it. |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: C-flat Date: 27 Oct 03 - 01:21 PM Meg Ryan didn't seem to want to talk about anything other than what she was there to promote and, as a result, came across as prickly and contrary but I also think that Parky didn't give her any encouragement and seemed a little impatient to the point of being rude. I got the feeling that there had been some difference of opinion in the "green room" before the show. It certainly didn't make for good viewing and exposed Parkinson to some extent, in that his shows are so watchable because of the quality and willingness of his guests rather than his own abilities to draw the best from them. |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 27 Oct 03 - 02:17 PM Yes, I too, thought that "something" must have gone on backstage prior to the show. |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: The Shambles Date: 27 Oct 03 - 04:23 PM Yeah more skilled interviewers like Jools Holland would have drawn the best from Meg Ryan. *Smiles* As to who was exposed by this - surely you shouldn't need too much skill to expect the guests invited to talk on the show - to actually be prepared to do this? Or in the case of guests that can't talk - like emus - to writhe about the floor trying to grab Mr Parkinson's privates. Now if Meg Ryan had at least been prepared to do this - the show may have been better? |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: Linda Kelly Date: 27 Oct 03 - 04:50 PM personally -I have never been a Parky fan - and I turned off when Meg Ryan came on because frankly who cares who she is. thought the guy playing the piano was wonderful-who was he? |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: C-flat Date: 28 Oct 03 - 02:51 AM His name is Jamie Cullum and I agree that he is wonderfully talented even if there is something odd about a twenty-something singing old standards as if he'd been touring smoky old lounges for years. |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: Gurney Date: 28 Oct 03 - 03:05 AM C-Flat, this may be the wrong forum to be concerned about young people singing old material. Some of us actively encourage it.... |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: GUEST Date: 28 Oct 03 - 03:26 AM LMAO Gurney!! |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: The Shambles Date: 28 Oct 03 - 03:32 AM You can listen to Jamie Cullum's CD here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/music/muze/index.pl?site=music&action=list_album&album_id=716388 |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: Splott Man Date: 28 Oct 03 - 08:08 AM In a slightly different vein, Matthew Kelly gave Frank Skinner a run for his money on this week's show., taking control of the interview and challenging him about comments he had made previously. It made for an extremely gripping programme. |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: GUEST,Tunesmith Date: 28 Oct 03 - 09:50 AM By the way, if you think Jamie Cullum is wonderful, what standards are you judging him by? His singing is very ordinary - and far too American influenced. Want to hear a really great version of " What a difference a day makes" ? - then, listen to the amazing Dinah Washington! |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: C-flat Date: 28 Oct 03 - 12:13 PM When you put it like that, Gurney, yes I suppose this is the wrong place!:~) Tunesmith, I suppose it's a question of taste and whilst I agree that his style is very "American", it does suit the genre of music he seems to be focused on. My only issue is with having someone so young adopting the style usually seen on a world-weary middle-aged crooner. |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: okthen Date: 28 Oct 03 - 01:29 PM I watched a film instead of Parky this week, after last weeks YES interview with YES Billy YES Connolly YES YES YES I said NO and YES I watchted something else, |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: Trevor Date: 28 Oct 03 - 02:16 PM I thought the Skinner-Kelly stuff was fantastic - quite tense, and a bit scary. Not often you see Skinner on the back foot. Incidentally, Matthew Kelly is getting brilliant reviews for his performance in 'Of Mice and Men'. |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: GUEST Date: 28 Oct 03 - 05:44 PM I think you watch too much television, Trevor. There's a really good alternative. It's called 'getting a life' |

Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 Oct 03 - 06:35 PM Now if they'd had Emu replacing Parkie, that might have been a good idea. |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: Dave Bryant Date: 29 Oct 03 - 06:55 AM Parky replacing Emu would be difficult to arrange though - who'd want to do a show with their hand up Parky's arse ? |
Subject: RE: Michael Parkinson-v-Meg Ryan From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Oct 03 - 07:24 AM Slight problem in that Rod Hull died some years ago. I liked Billy Connolly's comment to Rod backstage when they appeared on the same Parky show - 'that f*(&^g bird comes near me and I'll break your arm and his f*(&^g neck!' LTS |
