Subject: Sting Singing Welsh Song

I just received this question from a customer:

"I understand that the popular singer "Sting" has Welsh Heritage and that he actually sung a Welsh Folk Song in the Welsh Language on one of his CD's. Are you aware of this song. I've heard it sung once, I've searched in Record Stores for this Sting, CD, containing this song, but, I'm coming up blank."

I did some searching on the web (and in mudcat) but I haven't found anything. Anyone know of this song and which CD it would be on?

Thanks,
Snoozer

He sang one in Irish on a Chieftains CD a couple of years ago. He murdered it. Imagine Abba singing Whiskey in the Jar and you'll det the picture.

As a non speaker, I'm sorry to hear he murdered it. Musically, I thought it sounded pretty good.

Im not as fluent as I used to be when they were beating the language into me at school. It wasnt his pronunciation I was after, it was just my personal opinion of his rendition. Mind you I thought that Jagger did a great version of The Long Black Veil and I know from previous threads how a lot of catters would disagree with that. Different horses for different courses.............

Its interesting isnt it

If he tried to sing an Irish Gaellic song and got it wrong in parts is that bad ?

To me no he's opened up the song to a wider audience. He's tried to sing in the Gaellic and why the hell not.

Good luck to him and the song and the Gaellic tongue

Andrew

Well, I'm going to try this again....
Does anyone know of the Welsh song that Sting sang, in the Welsh language, on one of his CDs?
What is the song, and what is the CD?

Thanks,
Snooz
