Subject: Songwriting on a set theme. From: GUEST,Joe Moran Date: 16 Nov 03 - 01:33 PM Is there - or has there been- a songwriting competition based on contestants writing a song with the same set theme. I would be fascinated to hear the outcome. For example, does anyone think that the following theme could produce interesting songs: "A mother ponders upon the fact that her 18 year old daughter is leaving home and going off to college". |

From: Hawker Date: 16 Nov 03 - 03:20 PM Joe, Aine starts such threads regularly on Mudcat, they are called song challenges, based upon a story from the news or some other wonderful nut of inspiration, the results are brilliant, sometimes sad, sometimes hilarious but always brilliant! Cheers, Lucy |

Subject: RE: Songwriting on a set theme. From: GUEST,Joe Moran Date: 16 Nov 03 - 03:37 PM I was cheating somewhat before because I already knew of one song on the aforementioned theme. It is called " Letting Go" , a lovely song sung by Suzie Bogus. Interestingly, when I first heard the song, I was only half-listening and I thought the song was about the brakedown of a relationship between a man and a woman. Carrying on with the idea of songs written around the same theme, I recently heard a song - which I have heard before - called " Molly Kershaw". The storyline being is a more gritty version of the pop hit ( number one in the UK in 1969)" Where do you go to my lovely". AS a matter of interest, is that song well known in the States? |
