What's the current thinking on this issue? I read somewhere that there are various schools of thought. Some say that a person called Marx may have existed but that he was nothing like the person depicted in the Communist Manifesto. I also read somewhere that a lot of the Catholic clergy are rather sceptical of Marx's miracle workings. Anyway, what is the latest consensus(!) on all this.

He was a famous masked swordsman who lived in early nineteenth century California and fought for the welfare of the peasants. Surely you heard of the Marx of Zorro!

...so, was Zorro a first name, or last name? (imagining Zeppo Zorro...which would require TWO Zs sliced into the bad guy's hide!)

Of course Zeppo existed--what a foolish question--they named a lighter after him.

And this: Porthos, Athos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan. How come only three get credit? Was there a conspiracy?

And the same with Larry, Curly, Moe and Marx. Why is Marx always left out. The same might be asked of Laurel, Hardy and Marx. Or Batman, Robin and Marx. Sometimes, there is just no justice.

Well there is plenty of documentary evidence that a man did exist, some think he was a deity and some feel he was just a political agitator. And he did feed the masses with only five loaths and two small facists.

Oh sorry I thought this was the Jesus thread.

My sister used to sing a song about Jesus Christ that included the lines, "He defied the social classes, preached gospel to the masse, and predated Marx by 1800 years."

I am, of course, a comitted Marxist. I follow the teachings of Groucho, Chico, and Harpo.
