Subject: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 11 Feb 04 - 11:37 AM Well I have 4 weeks to go until I have to go into hospital for surgery on my knee and they expect I will be in there for a week or two...and I can't stand hospitals! This is where you guys could come in handy!! Micca has already suggested putting a couple of CD's onto min disc or tape for me to listen to....so I was wondering......If any of you wonderful people could put any stories, jokes, songs, tunes onto tape or mini disc to keep me sane and hopefully smiling through the pain. If you can help I can PM you my address!! Cheers Khatt...gettingnervousbytheday |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 11 Feb 04 - 11:47 AM I'll be glad to put my new CD, The Real Story on tape for you. PM your address, and it's done! Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: MudGuard Date: 11 Feb 04 - 12:15 PM I better don't record any of my playing - as you don't want to cry... But I will think of you! |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 11 Feb 04 - 12:18 PM Cheers MudGuard....keep practising. Im getting as musch playing in as possible so I can learn lots of new tunes!...I don't think they will let me take my fiddle into the hospital with me! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: MudGuard Date: 11 Feb 04 - 12:25 PM At least not in the operating room. One advantage though: they should give you no trouble when you ask for a bed with enough leg room (unlike easyjet...) ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Dead Horse Date: 11 Feb 04 - 02:18 PM To keep you sane! Whatever for? Don't wanna be sane in 'orsepital, fer cryin' out loud. Much better to pass the time in your own little world, like I do. Music is great for that. You can always put the earphones on to avoid any "unpleasantness" going on about the ward. Be careful you don't fall asleep before the trolley comes round with goodies, tho. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: jimmyt Date: 11 Feb 04 - 04:19 PM SInsull, I am a firm believer in sleep blocking out most annoyances............even here at work, I use the technique....... It is just that the patients get a bit anxious when I nod off with a drill in thier mouth! |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Ned Ludd Date: 11 Feb 04 - 05:07 PM Hey Khatt, What about Paganini's caprices? or Les Barker. War, Peace, Nathandriel and Kevin say they hope it goes well when you get there! Oh, and say hello to the old reprobate for me! The General. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Joybell Date: 11 Feb 04 - 05:14 PM My CD is mostly rather sad - but speaking for myself I think it sometimes helps to just go with it if you feel bad. So send me your address, Cat. Quick. It's a long way to travel. All the best Joy |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 11 Feb 04 - 05:22 PM Nedd....I would love for Nathandrial and the other guys to come and visit but I don't think they would fit through the door!! I have Guide Cats for the Blind already to go!!! Hope to see you soon...I should be fit and well for Hastings although getting to the top of the hill might be a bit optimistic!!! Khatt |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: GUEST Date: 11 Feb 04 - 06:30 PM Probably not at Hastings this year Khatt, but I hope you make the top 'o' the hill! I'm sure I'll see you later on. Remember- Sanity is relative! |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: RichM Date: 11 Feb 04 - 06:40 PM bring a pair of comfortable earplugs. Hospitals can be noisy places when you are trying to sleep. Have a pleasant stay, catsPHiddle! |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Joybell Date: 11 Feb 04 - 06:53 PM They let me take my guitar into hospital. Of course it's a laid-back country hospital. My surgeon and my True-love played it when they visited while I was too groggy to be able to play myself. They had a lovely jam. Fiddle should be OK. Harps - well they are a bit too close to Angel choirs for hospitals, maybe. But fiddle - give it a go. Just putting the CD out for the mail. Cheers Joy |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Raedwulf Date: 11 Feb 04 - 08:12 PM cat, dear, I refuse to attempt the impossible. Making you sane? I have an outside chance of pointing you in the general direction (it's not as if I know the lie of the land meself!). Though in true feline fashion, I don't expect you to take the slightest bit of notice... Keeping you sane? You didn't start there, you won't end there, you ain't gonna pass through there... I'd rather try to to govern AmerIranQifGhaniKoruba - the geography is simpler (at least it vaguely exists in the regular world...)! ;) Which Orse Spittle? I'll try to drop by, & you can laugh at me (just on general principles, y'unnerstan'!) Hugs & more hugs Rædwulf |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: LadyJean Date: 12 Feb 04 - 12:40 AM A friend of my mother's from Pitlochry Scotland supplied her with tapes by a man named Billy Conolly when she went in for surgery. He helped a great deal. He wasn't well known in this country, then. But I've been a fan since I heard his version of D I V O R C E. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Rustic Rebel Date: 12 Feb 04 - 04:58 AM It might be an impossible trek to stay sane while being hospitalized. They never let you sleep, you have the fear of catching unknown diseases and you blood is constantly analized. Did I make you feel better yet Cat? Why do you have to be in the hospital so long? Seems like an outrageous amount of time. Do you have a tape player? I am still living in 1982 where I can only record on a little hand held player, but if you want to hear some of my music, that's all I can offer. I do like to think my music can cure the humor in all known spiecies of the homosapian world, but mostly I tend to sing to the superior spiecies known as WOMEN. If you want to have a listen let me know. Good luck on your op. Love, Rustic |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Chief Chaos Date: 12 Feb 04 - 02:09 PM Best of luck Cat! I know you'll land on your feet (Hah!) You migh want to make yourself a big sign for above your bed that says "In for knee surgery not for spaying/neutering" I know someone who actually took a magic marker and wrote "This Leg" on the leg to be operated on and "The Other Leg ----->" on the other one just to keep things straight. The surgeon got a chuckle out of it. Sanity is overrated. Of course I prefer the term eccentric to insane! |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 13 Feb 04 - 03:14 AM LOL Walking Eagle and Chief Chaos!! The psychiatric ward it might have to be!! I like eccentric too!! Khatt |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Feb 04 - 04:16 AM Morty - I found it the other day - maybe we could come to some arrangement! On the other hand, if you want to help me make Christmas cards and tree decorations to sell here and at Lipmits Christmas fete this year, and raise some money for Mudcat or the British Heart Foundation, I'd be happy to provide the materials and charts. The rule is, if they get sold on Mudcat, 20% of profit goes to Mudcat, if they get sold elsewhere, the 20% goes to the BHF (a charity a bit too close to my own for comfort at the moment!) I will get around to posting a MudCatalogue as soon as I have enough stock to make it worthwhile. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 13 Feb 04 - 05:26 PM As of this afternoon, the tape is in the mail, and the post office people tell me to expect it to take ten days to get to you. Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Mudlark Date: 14 Feb 04 - 01:48 AM Kat...don't forget to take a radio...very helpful in the middle of the night when sleep is impossible. Also a journal (very helpful to write a lot of snide comments about nurses you don't like, etc. and to keep track in, make notes about questions you want to ask, etc.) and a small sketch pad help to while away the time... |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 14 Feb 04 - 08:39 PM Do you know what nurses do when you're asleep? They go round and read all the journals to see what you've written about them.... I know... I've watched them do it! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: lady penelope Date: 14 Feb 04 - 09:46 PM Well, they've got to do something while they're waiting to wake you up for your sleeping pill! What hospital are you in Cat? If I'm free of lurgey I'll inflict myself on you!!! What ever happens, INSIST that anyone who inspects / dresses your wounds has just washed their hands. If necessary in a very LOUD VOICE. Demand to see the INFECTION CONTROL CONSULTANT if necessary. This will make the work load for your local microbiology department much lighter and they will love you for it. It will also reduce your chances of contracting MRSA by 90%. (Trained professionals......yeah right). On a lighter note......I'm dissapointed. I can't find a "Little miss pagan, Wicker Man" arts and craft kit, to keep you amused in hospital. What can you do? Chin up. TTFN Lady P. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Peace Date: 15 Feb 04 - 11:41 AM Dear catsPHiddle, I don't see how a knee operation will keep you sane. Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Dave Bryant Date: 16 Feb 04 - 05:42 AM I've just had a thought - surely the word "Keep" in the title of this thread poses an anomally. Would anyone describe Khatt's normal state as "sanity" ? - espicially as she lives with Micca. Please don't attempt to alter her usual state of mind to boring "normality" anyone :-) I hope that you'll soon be feeling much better - just think, when your knee is better, you'll be able to kick all those people who've been rude to you - hmm perhaps I ought to start being more polite ! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 16 Feb 04 - 06:57 AM LOL Dave!! Brucie...I am having my leg broken just below the knee and having it reset so it is straight. They will be putting 'caps' on the bones to prevent them from grinding together. I have been told there is a long rehap period with intense physio!! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 16 Feb 04 - 07:22 AM Oh no... not the physioterrorists! Good luck Cat! Good idea about the radio though, don't do what I did. When I was in Queen Charlottes last year, I was a bit spaced on the painkillers for about the whole week I was there. I thought I could hear voices, and it was driving me mad. On the day I was to be let out of hosp I finally discovered what it was. The bedside radio (I had my own room), was turned on to volume level 1 and I could hear radio 4 all day apparantly. I'd left it all the week - I was too scared to say to the nurses, nurse I can hear voices... I didn't want to get carted off. You wished me well when I went in for my op. So, I'd like to wish you well too. Its a bit daunting isn't it, but honestly when you've had it done its a relief and eventually it will be worth it. Don't do what I did though, don't try and rush your rehab, I wore myself out! Good luck, and don't worry. PS... I'd be asking for food parcels if I were you... hospital food still hasn't improved - though they are pretty good with the tea runs! Regards Ella |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Catherine Jayne Date: 16 Feb 04 - 07:29 AM Food parcels are a good idea....anyone within visiting distance...you won't be allowed in without food....grapes....chocolate....cake.....jelly babies.....!!! Khatt |

Subject: RE: BS: Keep catsPHiddle sane in hospital!! From: Peg Date: 17 Feb 04 - 08:40 AM hope it all goes well, Kat! besure to bring in some things that *smell* nice; these can be a nice distraction. I would recommend going to Lush and getting some soaps or powders you like the smell of...studies have shown that aromatherapy often helps hospital patients heal faster (perhaps because it helps distract from the hospital smells)... If you do not have time or $$ or legs to go, let me know, I can mail you a parcel of samples! have fun at Hastings; wish I could come this year...probably not, but I will be there for Lammas if there is anything on... peg |
