'Something Special' by Johnny Crawford

This is a neat little ballad that Johnny sang to his girlfriend Sally (Cheryl Holdridge) in the 1962 Rifleman episode "A Young Man's Fancy". I've tried to find the song on cassette or CD compilations for years. It is only available on 45 RPM. 'Something Special' is the B-side of 'Cindy's Birthday' by Crawford.

I was able to tape the song from a replay of the Rifleman episode on The Hallmark Channel yesterday. Search ended, after 40 years. I was 13 when I first heard the song. It brings back memories of those older girls that a young lad often had a "crush" on, but that was unrequited love.

I am sure this is an obscure song to most here, but I will include the lyrics from the TV episode below for anyone, like me, that had been searching for them for 40+ years.

I have just a few more personal "lost" oldie/folk/traditional favorite songs to find. The search has been frustrating, fun and expensive. One of the rewards was finding Mudcat and having several of my questions answered here.

I clicked on the link'A Young Man's Fancy" and got the message that nothing was found.
I emailed the website and they said they have no record of 'She's Something Special'
Any other suggestions as to possible sources?

The title of the song is SOMETHING SPECIAL, not SHE'S SOMETHING SPECIAL, which might explain why they had no record of it.

The album was indeed published by Collector's Choice—Allmusic.com confirms this—but it has apparently been discontinued. You might be able to find a used copy somewhere.

Meanwhile, the whole scene from "The Rifleman" has been posted at YouTube.

I don't remember this song from the time-period, but I heard it yesterday while watching this episode on Me-TV. I guessed the year, and the copyright at the end of the show confirmed: 1962. I was touched by the song, and was reminded how charismatic Johnny Crawford was/is. It was on my mind to this point, enough to start Googling, and ending up here.

To Guest Cruiser: I don't remember "Something Special" but do recall hearing other songs by Johnny Crawford. Funny, I was listening to a Oldies CD that someone gave to me and heard songs by other male solo singers that were on the radio around the same time Johnny Crawford's songs were being played. Do you remember, Eddie Hodges singing,
"I'm Gonna Knock on Your Door" and Paul Peterson, "My Dad?"
Listening in the car to those two oldies on CD (not folk of course) but good songs from those days!

I was just a kid when those songs came out but had an older sister that played the radio and I heard all those songs.

What other songs are you trying to find? You mentioned that you were looking for "lost oldie folk/traditional songs on one of your posts.
