Subject: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Series From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 17 Feb 04 - 03:02 AM Last Chance Saloon was a song that ran thru the several parts of a Western set story for Dr Who 1st Series - female singer. It was of course a version of "Gunfight at OK Corrall". Any leads? A Tune or chords would be nice too, thanks, Robin |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Series From: Dita Date: 17 Feb 04 - 05:00 AM The video was released in the UK last year as part of a 1st Docter box set. The lyrics are to be found on the inside of the video sleeve. From what I remember it is quite a few verses long. I could post it here when I get time, or send you a photocopy. I haven't come across it, but a number of soundtracks have been released on CD. The Dr Who page on the BBC Cult TV site would be a good place to start looking. John. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Series From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 17 Feb 04 - 05:18 AM Nothing useful songwise on the BBC Cult TV site. The Gunfighters: Individual Episode Titles: A Holiday for the Doctor Don't Shoot the Pianist Johnny Ringo The O K Corral The song ran thru the whole 4 episodes and while it did repeat a lot of verses in each episode, there definitely were a lot of verses in total. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Ser From: Kevin Sheils Date: 17 Feb 04 - 07:32 AM The words are in the novelisation published years ago by Target in the UK years ago. If I can find my dusty copy and scan it in to OCR and copy it (too long to type at my speeds) before Dita does I will. Although she doesn't appear in the programme the song is sung on the soundtrack by Lynda Baron (Nurse Gladys from "Open All Ours") IIRC. |

Subject: Lyr Add: LAST CHANCE SALOON (from Dr. Who) From: Kevin Sheils Date: 17 Feb 04 - 07:39 AM a 2 second google search brought up this at this web site So fill up your glasses And join in the song The Law's right behind you And it won't take long. So come, you coyotes, And howl at the moon Till there's blood upon the sawdust In "The Last Chance" Saloon. On your way then you cowboys The time will be soon When there's blood on the sawdust In "The Last Chance" Saloon. It's your last chance of cussing At a gunfighter's doom It's your last chance of nothing - At "The Last Chance" Saloon. With rings on their fingers And bells on their toes The girls come to Tombstone In their high-silk hose. They'll dance on the tables Or sing you a tune For what's in your wallet At "The Last Chance" Saloon. On your way then you cowboys The time will be soon When there's blood on the sawdust In "The Last Chance" Saloon. It's your last chance of boozing Where there's no-one to mind It's your last chance of losing And the first place you find. It's your last chance for givin' It's your last chance of rye. It's "The Last Chance" for Livin' And the last place to die. There's gamblers from Denver There's guns from the South And many a cowboy With a dry, dry mouth. There's a rag-time piano And a small back room For to sleep off your troubles In "The Last Chance" Saloon. Four Days ride from the Station And you're leaving at noon - Then your one consolation Is "The Last Chance" Saloon. You've a good chance of swinging It's your last chance to hide And your last chance of singing Till your last long ride. It's your last chance of cussing At your hard-earned doom It's your last chance of nothing - At "The Last Chance" Saloon. So pick him up gentle And carry him slow He's gone kind of mental under Earp's heavy blow. It's your last chance of earning Your gunfighter's fee The pay is in dollars But the bullets are free. So it's curtains for Charlie That barman of fame He met Johnny Ringo And he knew Johnny's name. He knew Johnny's name And he spoke it out loud Now Charlie the barman Has gotten a shroud. Johnny Ringo has found her Johnny Ringo's found Kate The gunslinger's got her Now what is her fate? Johnny Ringo has seen her She's coming his way Johnny Ringo and Katie Were lovers, they say. It's curtains for Warren They gunned the kid down And them bad cruel outlaws Are heading for town So the Earps and the Clantons Are aimin' to meet At the OK Corral near Calamity Street. It's the OK Corral, boys Of gun-fightin' fame Where the Earps and the Clantons They Played out their game. They played out their game and We nevermore shall Hear a story the like of The OK Corral. So the cards they are drawn and The chips they are down Them outlaws and lawmen Are headin' for town. So them bad cruel outlaws Are meeting up soon And they've had their last drink in "The Last Chance" Saloon. So it's curtains for Ike and For Billy and Phin. Them bad cruel out laws Has paid for their sin. They paid for their sin and They lost on the draw. For the Earps they was faster And they was the law. So beware all you cowboys Who's a-yearning' to sin If the Earps is the lawmen You ain't gonna win. There also appears to be a sound file but it's not playing on my machine. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Series From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 17 Feb 04 - 07:50 AM Thanks very much. it appears that the Dr Who fans thought this was the worst episode ever. The ABC (Oz) are playing the whole run - obviously as a build up to the new series - and I caught most of this one. I thought this was teh best cleverest, wittiest Dr Who show ever. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Series From: Dita Date: 17 Feb 04 - 09:03 AM Well found Kevin, saves my old fingers. I bought the video box set last year and, because of all the bad press this story got, I watched the other two but left this one for months. When I did watch it I got a pleasant surprise,as it is a very good show. I guess some Who fans just don't get the wit. Colin Baker found that out too. Cheers, John |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Ser From: Rapparee Date: 17 Feb 04 - 09:22 AM I din't see the show, but there shore is a lot of bad history in that there song, pardner. I shore do love the stories about Wyatt Earp and his brothers -- the one's that wuz called "The Fightin' Pimps" down there in Tombstone. And of course, at that gunfight next to Fly's Photographic Parlor -- the OK Corral was further down the street, but "The Gunfight In The Vacant Lot Next To Fly's Photographic Parlor" just don't sound the same -- the baddest man was Doc Holliday, who was totin' a sawed-off twelve gauge shotgun under his coat. And there's mucho evidence that the Earp bunch fired first. As fer John Ringo -- ain't it said that the only man proved to be shot dead by John Ringo was John Ringo? Or am I thinkin' of some other shooter? But like y'all say, it's a teevee show and they're not known fer accuracy. "Speed's fine, but accuracy's final," as the old gunslinger said. |

" What's this about a new series? Will we be seeing the ninth doctor (or have I lost count?) one of these days? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Last Chance Saloon - Dr Who First Series From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 17 Feb 04 - 05:32 PM I don't think the song is much worse than many other "folk & trad" songs - and it is definitely different from some done "on the circuit"... :-) Robin |
