I'm having difficulty in deciphering the 3rd verse to this Magna Carta song


If you should come to Knaresborough town
Look for a woman that knows me well
Light are her eyes and fine her gown
And she goes by the bridge at Knaresborough town

The rivers flows on many a year
Through summer green and autumn brown
And men have lived and men have died
That walked the bridge at Knaresborough town

The bridge did fall so who knows when

I actually used to work with Chris Simpson, but at the time my interest in music didn't extend much beyond AC/DC!

I tend to think of THIS as the Bridge at Knaresborough, It is certainly a landmark when you are being rowed rapidly towards the buttresses by morris dancers.... - other photos HERE
That said - it is actually the rail viaduct. I expect the bridge referred to in song is the road bridge possibly THIS ONE? - see bottom of page.
An interesting location in Knaresborough is The House in the Rock.

It's a great song, by the way. I don't get the feeling MC are a highly rated band in the folk world, perhaps because of their rather cosy Simon & Garfunkel vocals? Either that or the narration on the best known albums Seasons & Lord of the Ages

There is an old prophecy here
that states that when the "high bridge" of Knaresborough has fallen three times, it signals the end of the world. Supposedly it's already fallen twice.

My wife and I lived for several years in Harrogate, just down the road, and often went to Knaresborough on Market Day.

We'd be most interested in the tune to this song, if that could be provided.
