Subject: RE: Ampthill Acoustic IS OPEN From: Ross Date: 27 Oct 04 - 03:36 AM Hi Mike - thanks a lot for your hospitality last night Here are the lyrics you requested: Strawmen & Plaiters Straw men & Plaiters Bedfordshire markets Come work for your trade All the year round For the people in London Straw hats & bonnets Need hats to be made Jobs are found Refrain: Thus trade increases Straw men & Plaiters The poor are daily fed Come ply your trade And thousands get their living Straw hats & bonnets By the head Must be made Watch out for wool men Straw hats are special Who'll fight for your trade They outshine the rest Partition Parliament Soon with our felt hats Laws to be made We'll show them whose best Thus trade increases Straw men & Plaiters The poor are daily fed Come ply your trade And thousands get their living Straw hats & bonnets By the head Must be made Imports are cheaper Vauxhall & factories Child labour no more Come to the Towns Fashions are fickle Straw men & Plaiters And then the war Are hard to find Thus trade decreases Straw men & Plaiters But the poor are daily fed Come ply your trade For thousands get their living Straw hats & bonnets By other trades instead Must be made Now in the present Miners, shipbuilders We think of the past And trawler men too Of times to remember We raise up our voices That seldom last And sing to you Strawmen & Plaiters Hooray for the hatters Come ply your trade For the hatters are the best Straw hats & bonnets The great age has ended Must be made But we'….ll not forget Ross Scrivener/Nicholas Rowe (1st refrain) 2000 Lets us know any ideas for any other Bedfordshire songs - I'm always stuck for ideas |

Subject: RE: Ampthill Acoustic IS OPEN From: mrTibbs Date: 21 Nov 04 - 01:29 PM Ampthill Acoustic Club is open every Tuesday from 20:15 Coming up: November 30th: Anahata and Mary Humphries. I am looking forward to this one .. see acousticclub.org.uk for more details. Recent highlights: November 16th: Bruce Gomersall and Andy Crowthy travelled across from Nettlebed to give us a great set including Hiring Fair at cllr's request. Closure of the main road from Bedford kept audience numbers down but those who struggled through enjoyed a great concert with support from David and Margaret. November 9th: In the round. A great night of variety with good support from Bedford Folk Club members. 27th October: Naming a group: 3 musicians, Penny, Carolyn and Brian, left with a name for their new group: "Standing Room Only". They entertained, supplied sweet music and gave me an introduction to electric double bass .. yes, I know the club is Acoustic but they asked nicely so we made an exception .. and were glad we did! Other possible names included 24 strings [which was between 3 of them!].. what is it about folks and stringed instruments? 19th October: George Norris and Jenny: George and Jenny stepped in as our mystery guests when the original artiste got double-booked. A great night with George and Jenny providing a good variety of songs. |
