Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: GUEST,GUEST, Duncan McFarlane Date: 16 Mar 04 - 08:38 AM Thanks for that Raggytash. Do I know you? Do make yersel known at the gig. By the way - joining us onstage will be the wonderful Maggie Boyle. And it's a mere £1 in (to cover the PA costs). Big raps to BBC Wales Celtic Heartbeat for playing 'Maria's Gone' off the album - and to Ali O'Brien for being first to play the title track 'Woodshed Boys' on her BBC GMR folk prog the other week when I played live on her show. Cheers. DMcF |

Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: Folkiedave Date: 16 Mar 04 - 11:12 AM I have been privileged to hear Duncan and the Band on "The Woodshed Boys". It is absolutely brilliant. Duncan and the band supported Chumbawamba at last year's Holmfirth and were brilliant. They are appearing there again and I am sure will be even better. Catch Duncan solo (one of his own songs "Bed of Straw" featured in English Dance and Song recently) and when he appears with the band - amazing. And the title song is great. Regards, Dave |

Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: George Papavgeris Date: 16 Mar 04 - 12:13 PM Bless Breezy, he's a fan...but let's not indulge in what my mates back in Greece call "comparing p***k sizes". Good luck with the launch, Duncan! I will badger Breezy till he books you. Or we can do a sort of cultural exchange with your local club, share an evening in both places? |

Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: George Papavgeris Date: 22 Mar 04 - 07:06 AM Just logistics, I guess Ally. At my own launch last Friday, the music welcoming the punters until we started was from Duncan's new CD. Go, Dunc, go! |

Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: GUEST,Geoff Taylor Date: 22 Mar 04 - 11:03 AM It is indeed logistics Ally. We sent off promo CDs a couple of weeks back to publications, radio stations, fest organisers etc. It was also advertised on our website - and subsequent sales were made! We also approached Borders around that time and they've taken some on board. The launch date was fixed a while back - before the CDs were ready - and, indeed, they came back from the manufacturers earlier than expected. We're still gonna have one helluva party though - and play for two hours + some, we reckon. G.T. (lead guitarist DMcFband) |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: MoorleyMan Date: 22 Mar 04 - 11:44 AM That thar noo CD of Duncan's just goes on sounding better with each play. Go get it when y' can I say! And as I mentioned in my earlier post, there's a longish ie full and fullsome review of Woodshed Boys up there on the netrhythms website - if this link works - www.netrhythms.com (That site's worth a regular visit - unearthing the music of other unsung heros too by the way) |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: George Papavgeris Date: 22 Mar 04 - 07:44 PM Rocket-propelled folk-rock indeed (just read David Kidman's review). MoorleyMan, could we trouble you for a review of the launch gig on this thread? |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: HipflaskAndy Date: 23 Mar 04 - 04:45 AM Only a quid to get in? Gasp! And there's gonna be a competition, a raffle, prizes(!), Maggie Boyle guesting with the band, the band doing two long sets - and a bar!!!! Hoorah! (Hic!) HFA |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: George Papavgeris Date: 23 Mar 04 - 05:43 AM Come on folks. What participatory activity would cost £1 only? (No Breezy, the one you have in mind doesn't count, and the £1 would be just for the little sachet - there's the wining, the dining...) The Snorbans fan club wishes the band all the best for the night. Break a string. Better, break a banjo. |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: MoorleyMan Date: 23 Mar 04 - 10:16 AM Sorry El Greko, no can do - won't be at the launch gig for Duncan's CD (I'm singing "away" that nite. But I'm sure it'll be a grand show, and I wish Duncan and the band several broken legs. So get the Korks a-poppin'! |

Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: HipflaskAndy Date: 24 Mar 04 - 03:34 AM Feel free to sachet all you want down at the front - space will be provided for them's as wants to dance! Or am we reading you wrong? Personally, I need a brandy or two afore shaking a leg in public. Pass the bottle - HFA |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: George Papavgeris Date: 25 Mar 04 - 05:50 AM It's tonight, you lucky people...give the man a night to remember! I am sure he will reciprocate. Duncan, I'll be flying back as you go on stage, but will be thinking of you and your special evening. Skin'em! |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: Folkiedave Date: 25 Mar 04 - 08:26 PM Despite the long travel back to Sheffield I reckon I am the first one back from the launch. The evening was magic - Duncan was on top form, Mr. Energy himself; Tony (bass) fingers up and down like a bride's nightie on a wedding night; Nick the drummer as good as ever; Ann the fiddle (was that a Bridge?) terrific, and Steve controlled the lighting and played the melodeon all at the same time. To be fully serious - to perform like that in that venue (good as it was) required top quality sound engineering, talented performers and an appreciative audience. They were all there in spades, the latter stood around the walls. The place was full, the music was tasteful....(sounds silly for a description of a folk/rock band but it is true), it is subtle and overwhelming at the same time. Duncan's own songs sound brilliant with the band. As I write this the thought comes to my mind that I have not mentioned Maggie Boyle. I will be honest and say I was trying to keep her for myself. The woman is magic. What a great night!! For those who have not heard the CD go and buy it. One small complaint. The tee shirts need to come in larger sizes!! Dave www.collectorsfolk.co.uk |

Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: George Papavgeris Date: 26 Mar 04 - 05:31 AM Thanks for the report Folkiedave. Just got back to Blighty meself and sorry I missed it. I will listen to the new CD instead... Well done, Duncan! Tell us, how was it for you? |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: AllyCat Date: 26 Mar 04 - 08:08 AM What a night! Mr Energy you say, Folkie Dave. Yer right there! Over two hours of relentless high energy folk rock. What a band!!! You travelled from Sheffield? I talked to one Pete Murphy - he came over specially from Wigan! And a couple from Nottingham were next to me. some folk have obviously picked up on the vibe, but.... Why are they not more well known? Unbelievable! |
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane CD Launch From: HipflaskAndy Date: 26 Mar 04 - 08:49 AM Give 'em time AllyCat - the debut studio CD is only just out. Reviews and (dare we hope) airplay to come over the next weeks/months. They've only chalked up a few gigs in their relatively short existance - but are getting rave notices - and immediate bookings! - from those that DO hear 'em. Last night's 'full house' sign saw 'em turning folk away, sadly. But the 'launch' gig was an unbridled success for the band, and those packed in there. (Whatever happened to the fire regs?) It'll grow (given the chance!) - let's see, eh? HFA |
