Subject: RE: Tommy Sands St Albans Fri 2nd April From: George Papavgeris Date: 02 Apr 04 - 06:34 PM Some of the best floorspots of the season, Fleggy excelled yet once more, the Ref delighted us with "Under English skies" and "Mountains of Morne", Tom and Nigel did very well indeed, Mike Sparks raised Tommy's interest with "13 florins". I did "Circles", "Flowers" and "Emptyhanded" and Breezy finished the spots with a brilliant rendition of Marcus Turner's "The boys are on parade". As for Tommy Sands - not a dry eye in the house, but there was plenty of laughter too (my personal favorite is his expression about the teeth of a wild dog: "Like the Ten Commandments - mostly broken"). An excellent end to the club's season. Roll on the 27th April (Tuesday), when we have one of my favorite siongwriters: Dan McKinnon. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Sands St Albans Fri 2nd April From: The Stage Manager Date: 03 Apr 04 - 06:36 AM My last two outings were El Greco's launch and last night. Don't want to cause any offence to anyone, but frankly I don't see it getting any better. I can't let Breezy's "The boys are on parade" pass without comment. I agree with El Greco, it was brilliant. However, I think we we all knew it was lurking in there somewhere. It may do his head in, and it may knacker the poor old sod, but I, for one, think he should let that clown mask slip a little bit more often. Last night, for the first time this season, we got a glimpse of the one hell of a folk singer that's lurking beneath. It couldn't have happened in better company. SM |

Subject: RE: Tommy Sands St Albans Fri 2nd April From: breezy Date: 03 Apr 04 - 08:16 AM and 'the little scrote' Thanks SM that'll cost you extra raffle tickets. oo I dont know what to say, then again, be back on Friday 7th May for more hem at the Duke in St Albns This morning Tommy came out into town and nicked me pitch, played 3 songs inc M M Shore, a tune, and a new song, which it was my privilege to hear. It tackles the very delicate subject of accepting foreigners into your community, the reverse of emigration, from an anti-racsist standpoint. He also played with a Fred Kelly speedipick and seemed O K with it. He's O K as a busker! Last seen heading off to Manchester, via Gloucester to talk to a dear old woman about celtic feet! He is another of the folk world's gentlemen, God speed Tommy. You who knew of him before know waht I mean. if you see him, say 'Hello' from St Albans |

Subject: RE: Tommy Sands St Albans Fri 2nd April From: George Papavgeris Date: 04 Apr 04 - 03:41 AM Why was Tommy going to visit Celtic's chiropodist? Elucidate please, Breezy. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Sands St Albans Fri 2nd April From: breezy Date: 04 Apr 04 - 04:12 AM Bunions mate, bunions, apparently celtic feet differ in shape from saxon feet, hence advantage for elevation in dance. Subject: RE: Tommy Sands St Albans Fri 2nd April From: breezy Date: 22 Apr 04 - 05:24 AM Tommy's Brother, Collum is at the Islington Folk club tonight and at the Redbourn club next Thursday. Be early on Sunday if you can please, as we have a bumper crowd rushing to grab floor spots, so with any luck I wont have to perform and remember its Les Sullivan as the main guest, and another of whose songs should be in every self-respecting folk singers repertoire. As Moses sings 4 of his already I'm already in the that elite bracket. Have anice day. btw 13th July, plan/book your visit to Sharps, the singing will be awesome that night. |
