Do you know the song title? Is it "Long Lankin" or something else? Can you quote any lines from it? Did anyone else record it? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: bill caddick long lankin From: Chris Green Date: 18 Oct 04 - 12:38 PM Refresh. I can't remember the song title, unfortunately - I heard him perform it at The Red Lion FC in Birmingham earlier this year and I haven't been able to find it on any of his recordings (although I know a lot of his stuff from the 70s isn't available anymore.) I can't remember any specific lines from it and as far as I'm aware no-one else has recorded it! If there are any needle-in-haystack specialists out there I'd be dead grateful for the lyrics! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: bill caddick long lankin From: Fliss Date: 19 Oct 04 - 04:10 PM Bill is a great chap. I ran a web design course in Much Wenlock in 2000 and Bill and the then landlord of the Boat, Paul and their friend Russ came along. They survived the HTML by sneaking off for a fag every so often. It rained all but 2 tuesday nights in 20 weeks! I christened the place Much Wetter! The Boat flooded to a record level and Paul's wife Dawn came along too and read the newspaper, had a cup of coffee and kept warm! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: bill caddick long lankin From: Chris Green Date: 20 Oct 04 - 12:17 PM WLD - do you mean the 'Long Lankin' song? If so, I'd be grateful for the title, if you can remember it! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: bill caddick long lankin From: Big Al Whittle Date: 20 Oct 04 - 01:14 PM I always thought that was it Long Lankin. I'll check - -yes Long Lankin in the Penguin book of English folk songs. But thats Penguins for you - never can get anything right. It was sung to Cecil Sharp in 1909 by a nun Sister Emma from Clewer in Berkshire, but it has a spectacular history. In the Scots version, he is out for revenge - in the English version , he is merely a blood tirsty ruffian. If there is anything I can do helpwise - don't hesitate. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: bill caddick long lankin From: Chris Green Date: 20 Oct 04 - 02:09 PM Ah! Bit of a misunderstanding, I think, WLD. I'm looking for an original song by Bill Caddick on the same theme but told from Long Lankin's perspective: ie - justifying why he did what he did. Maybe he got the idea for the song from the version of the trad one performed by Magic Lantern. Thanks anyway! :) |
