Subject: Obit: Lenore Robinson From: Charlie Baum Date: 20 Apr 04 - 02:17 PM Lenore Robinson passed away peacefully (but far too young!) in her sleep Sunday night/Monday morning. She was a wonderful woman who chaired the Takoma Park Folk Festival and helped to find and program performers for the Washington Folk Festival. She listened to music with such responsiveness--- she was the kind of audience that makes a musician want to play forever. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 21 at 1:00 pm at the Hines-Rinaldi funeral home at 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, White Oak (Silver Spring), Maryland. (phone at the funeral home is 301-622-2290). It's a couple of blocks north of Colesville Road (Route 29) on New Hampshire Ave. --Charlie Baum |

Subject: RE: Obit: Lenore Robinson From: momnopp Date: 20 Apr 04 - 06:03 PM My jaw is dragging on the ground -- this is so unbelievable! Larry, when you read this, please know that my heart is with you at this shocking time. I will try to be there tomorrow at the funeral -- Thank you, Charlie for posting this. I can barely see through the tears as I try to tell my son, Dylan about this loss. Dylan has been attending organizing meetings for the Takoma Park Folk Festival with me since he was four years old. The folk community has lost an amazing gem in losing Lenore. Peace, JudyO/momnopp |

Subject: RE: Obit: Lenore Robinson From: GUEST,Lisa Null Date: 20 Apr 04 - 11:06 PM For those of you who have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Lenore Robinson, chair of the Takoma Folk Festival and a program committee member of the Washington Folk Festival, it will come as a great shock and sadness to hear that she passed away last night in her sleep. Charlie and I just spent a wonderful seder with her wonderful husband Larry Robinson over Passover and were touched, as always, by her grace, idealism, intellgience, and beauty. I cannot get her smile out of my mind or the way she listened to music with such responsiveness--- she was the kind of audience that makes a musician want to play forever. What a loss for our area though what a joy to have benefited by her hard work and benevolence. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Lenore Robinson From: DeanC Date: 22 Apr 04 - 01:13 PM Although I had known of Lenore for many years, I had not really met her until last year. Even though she had a lot of experience in organizing and eventually chairing the Takoma Park Folk Festival, when the Washington Folk Festival decided last year to hold a seminar on running festivals, she decided to attend. For the most part she attended quietly, taking in what we had to say. Occasionally, I could draw out of her some of what she had learned about running festivals (and it was a lot). I knew that she was pretty busy with the Takoma Park festival, but this year I decided to ask her if she would be interested in working on the program committee for WFF. (There's an old adage that if you want something done you should ask a busy person.) Her answer to me says a lot about her. She said, "Well, I guess I can't really refuse because I love the Washington Folk Festival. Thanks for inviting me. I'll be there." And she was. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Lenore Robinson From: Carly Date: 22 Apr 04 - 07:31 PM I have been an MC at the Takoma Park Folk Festival for many years, and my memories of that festival will forever be linked to my rememberances of Lenore. I see her now, in a Festival tee-shirt, clipboard in hand, as she pauses to say a word of welcome, or encouragement, or thanks, as she makes her way around the site. We have lost a generous, hardworking, lovely soul, whose passion for dance and music manifested itself in countless hours of work in order to promote, preserve and share that passion with her community. She will be missed. My deepest sympathies go to her husband, Larry, and their two children, as well as to the rest of her family and friends. |
