Thanks to the Guest who contributed an inspired bit of doggerel about me on the MOABS thread. I have enlarged upon it, as follows:

On a tree by a river sat one Little Hawk
Sang "Wallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
I was washing my linens when I heard him squawk
'Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow'!"
"Oh tell me then, wise Little Hawk !" I did cry,
"Is there yet balm in Gilead under the sky?"
With a shake of his Little Hawk head, he replied,
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"

He wrought many a post, as he perched oe'r the sward,
Singing "Wallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
And a cold perspiration bedecked his keyboard,
Sing, wallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!
Then he ranted and raved and invoked "Captain Kirk"
As he praised William Shatner (tho' Shatner's a Jerk)
And an echo returned with a tremulous quirk
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"

As the days linger on still I think of his cry
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
It reminds me of joys that have long passed us by
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
As our dreams fade like blow-up dolls punctured with pins
Margaret Thatcher and Hilary Clinton begin
To resemble the phallus of dead Gunga Din
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"

The Republican Grebe and the Democrat Finch
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
Are forever embroiled in a larcenous clinch
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
But the Little Hawk laughs from his heavenly perch
As he shits on the Redemopublicrat Church
Knowing all you poor saps will be left in the lurch
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"

When the voting is over the fun will resume
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
The Marines will kick ass, the consumers consume
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
It won't matter who won, they'll be draining the moat
And denying the saucers that overhead float
I don't mind, I just wish they would give back my goat!
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"

Now my lay it is done, yet the song must endure
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
As the Little Hawk serenades all, rich and poor
"Dipwallow, dipwallow, dipwallow!"
You can call Chongo Chimp, he might take on your case
You can blame teribus, if you're losing your place
As you plow through the prose and turn red in the face...
Just sing "Wallow, Dipwallow, Dipwallow!!!"

It is against the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) to shoot songbirds. However, Little Hawk may not fit the legal description of a songbird...best stay out of shotgun range.

What the heck is a dipwallow?

Now look, Cruiser, don't get all left-brain on us, here. :-) You have to use the intuitive right cortex when critiquing poetry. Dipwallow is a metaphor, a nuance, a moodsetting expression that acts as the glue which holds the rest of the song together.

But if you insist on having an explanation...are we not all wallowing in the confusion and mire of the consumer culture? And does this not result in everyone becoming a bit of a dip at times?

Uh, er, um, I think I understand.

I thought it just maybe because since a pond is sometimes called a wallow and since you were "singing" near the water that you were telling the pretty young maiden to dip her linens in the wallow, ergo, dipwallow.

I am glad I went to the source for the meaning of the epithet...although you might want to use my interpretation because it may make more sense(?) You have my permission, just remember me when the royalties from your "song" start rolling in.

(I guess such "good art" spawns individual interpretations..beauty is in the eyes or ears of the viewer or hearer)

I often suspected Little Hawk had something big to say.
Sometimes he has seemed on the verge of spitting it out, but until today it hasn't quite arrived.
But now at last it has.
This is one of those historic turning points, after which nothing you ever read will be the same.
Obviously this is only the beginning. Little Hawk's masterpiece is yet to come.
