I started to take step dance lessons this year. So far I've learned an Old Tyme Reel and now I'm starting to learn a waltz clog. I'm doing private lessons, and my teacher is making modifications so that I can dance despite certain annoying spine issues. Mostly I don't do the 'hops' - they are turned into heel taps. Step dancing is wonderful fun and great exercise, and the music is WAY better than any aerobics class I've ever tried (and quit for that very reason).

So I'm wondering - is there anyone else here who does Ontario Step Dancing? Beginner - Medium - Advanced?

Wow bw, do you ever take time to breath? I envy your enthusiasm and energy, only wish I had the same! Maybe in the next life I'll have time to dance, for now I'll enjoy watching...Peace, Mooh.

A great regional art form, centered right here in the grand old Ottawa Valley. There's a couple of stepping lads from Eganville Ontario who are touring with the Chieftains these days. They are quite old, as in, over 20. You're more ambitious (and flexible) than I am Debbie!

My teacher just held a recital (I had to miss it unfortunately) and the oldest dancer was in her 70's. I've been told that older step dancers can dance sitting down in their wheel chairs. So it's not only for the young - and you can't let them have all the fun.

I'm no spring chicken, and I have issues such as escaping discs, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis, but where there's a will there's a way. You just have to have a good teacher, is all. I take my lessons from Sherry Johnson, here in Toronto.

This summer Cindy Thompson is going to be on staff at The Woods Music and Dance Camp. I absolutely can't wait. Ottawa Valley meets Lake Rosseau!
