Does anyone have the lyrics to the original Mr. Clean commercial jingle that appeared on TV ? There were 2 stanzas & I am looking for the complete lyrics to both. The second stanza in particular described all the things that the product was useful for. SOL ZELLER

Something...

"Mr. Clean will clean your whole house
And everything that's in it
Mr. Clean
Mr. Clean
Mr. Clean"

Let me think for a while.

Mr. Clean gets rid of dirt and grime
And grease in just minute
Mr. Clean will clean your whole house
And everything that's in it

Floors, doors, walls, halls
White sidewall tires and old golf balls
Sinks, stoves, bathtubs he'll do
He'll even help clean laundry too

Mr. Clean gets rid of dirt and grime
And grease in just minute
Mr. Clean will clean your whole house
And everything that's in it

Can he clean a kitchen sink?
Faster than a wink!
Can he clean a window sash?
Faster than a flash!
Can he clean a dirty mirror?
He'll make it bright and clearer
Can he clean a diamond ring?
Mr. Clean cleans anything!

Mr. Clean gets rid of dirt and grime
And grease in just minute
Mr. Clean will clean your whole house
And everything that's in it

Mr. Clean, Mr. Clean, Mr. Clean

Aloha,
Mark

Thank You Mark. I did not miss it. I am greatful to you for your efforts. I am trying to collect many of these commercial jingles that were so popular when TV first came out and were a precious part of my childhood memories. I understand that many folk singers have daytime jobs writing some of these jingles in order to pay the bills & the mortgage. Tom Chapin once admitted this in an interview. In fact, a Jewish cantor wrote the famous McDonalds commercial, "You deserve a break today". His name is Kenny Karon. SOL ZELLER

You know, it never occurred to me to wonder who wrote all those songs that I remember from watching TV as a child in the 50's and (mostly) 60's. I'd love to know if you've been able to track down any of the songwriters. I do have quite a few stored away in my dwindling memory banks. One of my favorites is what I called "the world's shortest commercial," for a liquid cleaner: "Try White Cap!" That was it! I think it lasted 5 seconds, and the visual was a picture of the bottle, which I believe had a picture of a nurse on the label, or maybe just a nurse's cap. The tune is the same 1-6-4 that's better remembered as "N-B-C" or "Go Greyhound [and leave the driving to us]"

Aloha,
Mark

Hi Mark, I do not remember White Cap. Most folk singers did not want it known that they worked for same the corporate establishment that they often condemmed in their songs, so it would be hard to find out who wrote what. Also, the jingle became the property of the company that paid for it. Here is one you might remember. It is the only cigarette that was named for a TV program. "Hit Parade".

More people are smoking Hit Parade around the USA
Cause Hit Parade has all you want in a cigarette today
So why not switch to Hit Parade and You'll be sure to get
The tobacao, the tip, and the taste you want
         In a great new cigarette

It was named after Your Hit Parade that featured Giselle Mackenzie,
Russell Armes, Dorothy Collins, & Snooky Lanson, originally sponsored by Lucky Strike. I am sure you remember it. SOL ZELLER

Sol, I'm not as old as you think I am! I don't remember Hit Parade cigarettes, or the show...I was born in 1954, so the first TV shows I remember watching were Superman, the Life of Riley, and the Mickey Mouse Club.

Joe, whatever are you talking about?

Aloha,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I was born in 1942 so I guess I was exposed to a few more TV commercials than you were. Today's commercials seem very devoid of good music compared to those of yesteryear. I can only imagine a singing commercial jingle for Viagara, Levitra, or Cialis. Our parents and grandparents would cringe at the stuff being advertised today. SOL ZELLER

I don't know the lyrics but I know the singer...Don Cherry. His website, run by his wife Francine, is www.doncherrysinger.com and the commercial, in full, is posted on the site for you to watch. You can also let Don and Francine know how much you like it via their messageboard which they read every day, and they will likely contact you back with the information.

Mark - re "world's shortest commercial", I remember when ITV started in 1954 [I was born 1932 btw], there was a 3-second commercial which just sang "Sleep sweeter - Bournvita" with a flash-pic of a steaming mug.
